No.

They need to be pasteurized.

You'll be alright for a long time, until you get unlucky and get that one salmonella-containing egg.
Cook 'em, or get them pasteurised in a tub.
It hasn't helped...

If you insist on doing it,buy "egg whites" in a carton. They are pasturized and have almost no taste. It is about like drinking skim milk,as far as the taste.

Buy them pasteurised. Extracting egg-white out of eggs isn't really dangerous, but you only need one egg or a bad day and you could be hospitalized.
And why don't you use some protein-powder instead, eggwhites taste like shit.

You can get a Biotin Deficiency from eating only raw egg whites.  You need to eat the yolk or some yolks with them when you have them raw.

If you eat 8 eggwhites every weekday morning for 5 years odds are you will contract salmonella

So what happened?
Symptoms?
How did you get better?
How long were you sick?

I use EggBeaters with my shakes, but I also usually drink about 4-6 whole raw eggs per day. Been doing it for a few years and haven't gotten sick yet.
I know there's a low risk factor.
But occasionally I like to defy death to appreciate life. ::)

I drank a lot of eggs, back in college. I determined that I needed more protein and needed to ingest more food and protein, in order to get it.

I ended up consuming a dozen eggs per day, blending them in shakes and drinking two per day. Some of you may have heard me refer to such as "Poor Man's MET-Rx", which consisted of 6 eggs 16 oz. of milk, and one scoop of protein powder (usually the cheap GNC Challenege Milk-and-Egg kind). I got the idea from MuscleMag articles, featuring Vince "The Iron Guru" Gironda.

Regarding the salmonella issue, my friend Doug used to pick on me all the time, singing a song that imitated how sick I would be. Keep in mind that salmonella is a bacteria and, like most of its kind, there are two environment in which it cannot survive: Extreme heat AND extreme cold.

Fortunately, my roommate had a mini-fridge which had a tendency to freeze my eggs. So, when making my shakes, I often ended up dumping 4-6 "Egg-sickles" into my blender. People who cook food for a living are taught about the "danger zone", a temperature range conducive for bacteria growth.

Again, extreme heat (over 140o) and extreme cold (under 40o) is best for killing bacteria, including salmonella. bacteria.

If anything makes you sick when handling eggs, it's the improper cleaning of your utensils. When I did get sick in '97 and told my mother what happened, she told me that the area around my blender (and occasionally the blades had slimy egg residue on or around it. From that point forward, I cleaned my blender EXTRA THOROUGHLY and use BLEACH. I never got sick again.

Just for info, from wikipedia.
I don't think it's nice to vomit and shit all over for 3-7 days.
The part in italics is interesting for roid users.  ;D ;)

Salmonellosis is an infection with Salmonella bacteria. Most persons infected with Salmonella develop diarrhea, fever, vomiting, and abdominal cramps 6 to 72 hours after infection. In most cases, the illness usually lasts 3 to 7 days—most affected persons recover without treatment. However, in some persons the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient becomes dangerously dehydrated and must be taken to a hospital. At the hospital, the patients will receive intravenous fluids to treat their dehydration and medications may be given to provide symptomatic relief, like fever reduction. In severe cases, the Salmonella infection may spread from the intestines to the blood stream, and then to other body sites and can cause death unless the person is treated promptly with antibiotics. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness. Some people afflicted with Salmonellosis later experience reactive arthritis, which can have long-lasting, disabling effects.

The type of salmonella usually associated with infections in humans is called Non-Typhoidal Salmonella. It is usually contracted by ingesting raw or undercooked eggs, or from animals such as:

    * Poultry and cattle, if the meat is prepared incorrectly or becomes infected with the bacteria somehow.
    * Infected eggs and milk, as well as egg products, when not prepared, handled, or refrigerated correctly.
    * Reptiles such as turtles, lizards, and snakes, as they can carry the bacteria on their skin.

Also a poor mans shake:  Milk, 3-5 eggs or whites, Splenda, and currently I am using a bit of Hershey's Cocoa, unsweetened.  The Cocoa tastes bad on it's own, hence the Splenda.  Very little carbs and/or sugar in the cocoa.

You're kidding me, right?

Sure you shouldn't believe Wiki on new information that you cannot make sure, but this is common knowledge.

I think you are a fool.

There are parts in the world where salmonella is almost non existant.
For example Japan. Raw chicken is eaten there very often.

In northern europe, nearly all chicken and eggs have salmonella.
They are not a myth, they may be non existant where you live, but in northern europe they kill hundreds every year.

Salmonella in small amounts doesn't really harm you if you're used to it. And it's a myth that chicken aren't aloud to contain a certain amount of salmonella, only when the values are to high the national foodsecurity will ring a bell.

The problem in the western world is the fact that our resistant is far to low by all the regulation. A bit to much already makes us sick. You could try to increase the doses of eggwhite slowly. The risk of getting ill will stay but that's a change you have to decide to take.
