Author Topic: Bodybuilders from the past who could beat Mr Olympia Jay Cutler (Read 12473 times)

Before anything, I'd like to say that I have all the respect in the world for Jay, who's a class act and whose work ethics, humbleness, demeanour and even physique are all very undervalued and unappreciated. In his own way, Jay's raised the Mr Olympia title to another level. He will never be as impressive physically as Ronnie was at his best, but that's not taking anything away from his persistence, focus and discipline.

That being said, I think that the following bodybuilders from the past, in their best shape, would have beaten Jay in his 2006 Mr Olympia form:

Ronnie Coleman,
Dorian Yates,
Flex Wheeler,
Kevin Levrone,
Markus Ruhl,
Chris Cormier,
Aaron Baker,
Mike Francois,
Lee Haney
and possibly Shawn Ray.

What do you guys think?

I think that Jay at 274lbs would beat all of them except for the 1999 version of Coleman.

No way mate. Doz was around 260 in far better shape, vascularity, density, shape etc etc. Mike Francois, KLo, Flex, Chris all competed around 260, with far better structure, shape etc.

that was the 2004 ASC...Jay weighed about 245lbs

he was a full 30lbs heavier at the 2006 Olympia

You're wrong on 2 counts. One, no one's hating on Jay. We're not attacking his person, just discussing how his physique compares with other bodybuilders in their prime and two, Ronnie, in his 2003 wouldn't be beaten by anyone that's competed so far.

Ya know if Jay's waist wasn't as wide and his biceps were completely even I wouldn't bitch about him being Mr. Olympia because he does have the muscle mass, quality and conditioning without a doubt....His body just doesn't flow together very well with his huge obliques....Any of the guys on the list(Except: Ruhl & Baker) could beat him though best for best...

At their bests I would say:

Yates
Coleman
Wheeler

A lot of us don't give Jay the respect he deserves as Mr. Olympia, but that is becuase his conditioning and his back are a notch below the standards set by Yates and Coleman. However, Jay's back is still as good as many of the other competitors listed above, plus he carries more muscle giving him the edge. Flex is the only smaller guy who can hang with the mass monsters becuase of his extreme muscle roundness, fullness, and aesthetics.

ronnie,yates,mike francois and wheeler at their level bests could have beaten him..i don't think so baker or ruhl or shawn could have beaten him.lee haney does not count cuz he competed in an another era...

correct..although i am a big fan of fux but i really don't think he could have beaten jays 2006 form or his 2001 form...

think it's hard comparing eras, i mean we know Ronnie can beat him, he has, definitely think Dorian, Haney without a doubt, but not sure on the rest, maybe Francois, man he could have done some damage if didn't have health problems

they said Ronnie was the second only reigning to be defeated. Dorian retired, Lee haney retired, they were never defeated. But I think the 1998-2001 coleman would take cutler anytime, and flex wheeler at his best would get him also. this year's Olympia will be very interesting in my opinion. Coleman will show up lighter, amybe he'll look better than the pass two years, but if Cutler wins again, Coleman, at 43 yrs old better retire and call it a career.
