The way FLEX explained it, the difference would be that the chain provides gradually increased resistance as more links are pull up off the floor - rather than all at once the way a plate hanging from a belt would.

I think.

Whatever the explanation: yeah, it's genuine stupid. I visualize a quadriplegic Branch mouth-joysticking his electric wheelchair on stage at the Arnold Classic to accept a special award they made up to salute him for his courage in not publicly begging for death after his tragically-avoidable paralyzing accident.
