I order a customized mix consisting of milk isolate, caseinate, and whey isolate.  I use nothing fancy here and actually use rather "old" type proteins (not the new micellar casein and cross-flow micro/ultra filtered whey b.s.).  Anyway the exact same mix that I'm using now only cost $34 for 6 pounds back in 2000.  Today the same friggin powder costs just over $60 for 6 pounds!

Actually, I just came back from the Anaheim Expo (there are over 3,600 booths there), and yes, whey protein prices are going through the roof. Serious situation there.  In the past month and upcoming month, many prices are going up.  Champion, Natures Best, Optimum Nutrition, Dymatize, and others.

With China and other countries using more protein, exporting whey is getting profitable, and prices have gone up.

world demand of protein in general is starting too exceed production, expect to see general protein (food fish, soj, eggs) prices rising soon!

The prices of whey has been going up for the last year in a half, almost 20% per pound. Those companies you mentioned usually buy in quantites that last a while. Now that they are having to reordering, their prices are finally reflecting it.
