Boston lead singer dies

Brad Delp, lead singer of the rock band Boston, is found dead at the age of 55. Cause is unknown.

One of the best rock bands of the 70s and 80s IMO.

The greatest "One Album Wonder" band ever.

Everyone had this record. I remember when it came out, Boston went from an unknown band, to selling out Madison Square Garden and every arena in the world.

Never came close to following it up.

nah it was some of the greatest engineered rock. tom shoals, the guitarist and pianist, was an MIT grad.

Actually, this album ushered in what came to be known as "Corporate Rock," overly clean, almost antiseptic sounding music, which, ironically, inspired bands like the Ramones to rebel and create punk rock.

I might be wrong but it's tom scholtz. Tom was supposed to produce Sammy Hagars 1980 album "danger zone" while sam was still signed with Capital records, he pulled out for unknown reasons. Some members of boston did sing back up for hagar from time to time as the "bos-tunes" or something like that. Yes, I'm a van halen, sammy hagar nut.

From what I remember Tom was really wierd, hiding out in his studio for years at a time.

I was actually listening to their Greatest Hits album on the way home from work lastnight. Cool the Engines, Peace of Mind, We're Ready....those were some great songs.

Nah. Ramones got their start in '74 or so. This album didn't come out for another year or two.

actually, i just looked it up. i got the pronunciation right but you were closer on the spelling...it's "Scholz"

i saw them play in 2004 and they sounded really good. he's a pretty awesome guitarist. delp sounded pretty great on the songs he could sing, but he needed serious backup for some. im not sure if it was his voice or his health that was affecting him even back then.

They didn't release enough albums to qualify. Their debut album was great.

Tom Scholtz had money and held several patents before Boston became big. They signed with CBS Records. Contractually they had to produce albums in a certain time frame which Scholtz rebeled against. He was making a good living off his patents and his guitar man invention or whatever it was called so he fought CBS in court. He didn't like to tour or any of that shit. Their second album was actually released by CBS before it was really finished. Tom Scholtz says that is why it wasn't nearly as good as their debut album.

Actually, I heard an interview with Joey Ramone. He cited the band Kansas, which started in 1971, as the type of music that he couldn't stand. Boston had a pretty similar style.

The last CD of Metallica's sucked ass. The one before that wasn't too hot either. They sold out & Lars is a loser.

Their best shit was before they became really known. They'll never be the way they were.

Don't forget the New York Dolls. They also were instrumental in re-invigorating rock around NYC, which in turn, got exported to London where it found a ready crucible to create 'punk.'
