Kobe Scores 50
« on: March 18, 2007, 08:49:01 PM »
MVP!  MVP!  MVP!   ;D

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Kobe Bryant became the first Lakers player with consecutive 50-point games in 44 seasons, following a 65-point game with 50 against Minnesota on Sunday night in Los Angeles' 109-102 victory over the Timberwolves.

After shooting 23-for-39 from the field in Friday's overtime victory against Portland, Bryant was 17-for-35 against the Timberwolves, who lost their 10th straight road game. Last season's scoring champ helped secure the victory with a critical three-point play after Minnesota sliced a 19-point deficit to 95-92 on Ricky Davis ' 3-pointer from the left sideline with 2:55 to play.

The last time a Lakers player scored 50 or more points in consecutive games was in December 1962, when Elgin Baylor reached that figure in three straight contests - including a home-and-home set against the San Francisco Warriors.

Only two other players in the last 10 years have recorded back-to-back 50-point games. Antawn Jamison did it in December 2000 against Seattle and the Lakers (51-51) and Allen Iverson did it in December 2004 against Milwaukee and Utah (54-51).

Bryant has scored at least 50 points four times this season and has averaged 40 in his next game. Prior to this game, the most he ever scored immediately after a 50-point game was 45 - which he did twice. The fewest was 14, on a night when Shaquille O'Neal had 34 at Seattle.

It was the 17th time that Bryant has scored at least 50 points. The Lakers are 12-5 in those games.

What a shame we can't put Kobe in a time machine back to 1989 so we can see the Detroit Bad Boys put this smug upstart on his ass and watch him go 3-19 from the floor.

I think it was Shaq who nominated Lambeer as the most obnoxious dirty player he'd ever played against. Effective though.

Yep, and SHAQ only played against Bill when he was on his last legs. What a sight it would have been to see Laimbeer put a elbow into Kobe's ribs on a dunk or layup attempt ;D.

Why, because some see beyond the me-first point scoring and see an extremely irritating twit? Far from the near-flawless Coleman.

Crappy writing...

Please explain why that has any significance whatsoever.

I know one thing.
Taking his team to the finals.

A couple of good matches don't make an MVP.
Though i agree, when he's ON, he's unstoppable.

That might be a little bit of a exaggeration ;) Not saying he is not an amazing player, he is.

Not to me.  There isn't a player today who can do what Kobe does, inside and out, at the free throw line, defense, intensity, cruch time, etc.

Kobe is the best player in the NBA and there's no disputing it.

And yet he's so not compelling.

How so?  Stats, wins, rings, perennial all star, first team all NBA defense, endorsements, jersey sales, ticket sales at home and on the road, etc.  What's left?

Doing it without Shaq. I don't think he's good enough in regards to the intangibles to do it.

Legitimate issue.  That said, he gets a pass from me so far, because they have not surrounded him with enough talent to win a championship.  Give him another all star and he likely gets another ring, or three.  They are one player away.  Smush Parker and Kwame Brown are not the answer.

How about that stretch a couple years ago where Kobe averaged 40+ for like 15 games? Awesome.

Bynum may be that kind of player in a couple years.

I hope so.  As of now, he is sort of lazy.  He could come around though.
