Who buys/bought Pride?
« on: March 20, 2007, 07:05:03 PM »
Rampant rumor is that the Fertitta's had bought Pride for the sum of 65 million.  Today, there is a rumor that K1, not the Fertitta's are in fact buying Pride.  Sakakibara, Prides President is set to make an announcement tomorrow.  I think the WWE bought them, myself.   ???

the question is will Dana introduce the Open Weight tournaments under UFC's name? Thats worth paying good money to see with the talent that would be on show

I'm wondering whether the UFC will keep the Pride name or combine the two orgs into a bigger UFC. I'm guessing the latter.

I think it was BF who disagreed, but I believe that MMA needs to have one Major League, like the NBA or NFL.

i think because of the success associated with the brand, it should remain as Pride FC no matter who has bought it. Look at ECW for a prime example of why................

If Pride has been bought by the UFC, I think the Pride name will eventually go bye bye.

Whenever you see two companies merge, the powers that be always say that there won't be any job cuts and that things will remain the same, but after awhile, they realize that they don't need two HR departments, two marketing depts, two Payroll depts etc.

In addition, with the exception of hardcore MMA fans, the American audience isn't very familiar with the Pride product, as opposed to the UFC. So, if you were the Ferititta's, would you want Fedor fighting under the Pride name, or UFC?

But do you think that changing the Pride name to UFC that they will lose their Japanese Fan base... Who spends more a year fan wise. American UFC fans or Japanese Pride fans.......

I can't really say what the Fertitta's plans are for Japan, but their company, Station Casinos, is based in Vegas, so, IMO that's where the majority of the fights, whether they be UFC or Pride, are gonna be held.

As far as the Japanese fan base, I believe they'll buy UFC PPVs as long as there are a few popular Japanese fighters on the card.

I never bought into the whole UFC vs. Pride feud. IMO, people pay to see fighters. The organization is secondary.

Are fight fans any less interested in seeing Crocop, now that he's in the UFC?

Yeah I used to work for Maytag in Vegas... And I was up in the one of the Ferrtitta's brothers houses. In tournament hills..... Yeah they are loaded. I walked thru the whole house, he wasnt home and his maid gave me a tour....The house was really really nice. But the mexican that I was working wtih dinged the shit out of his front door. It was big wooden and exspensive, but the maid said she would have it fixed.....

Since Shogun has signed a two fight contract with the UFC and Pride, it may be say to assume that the Fertittas did buy DSE Pride.

That might be a bad thing... even though I think Pride is a cool and original name for a fighting organization. The word is still heavily associated with homosexuality.

its supposed to be a 4-fight deal, 2 in each Org. Even if Pride havent sold to UFC it wouldnt be a bad move for him to have 2 fights in UFC.

This brings me to an idea - do you think Cro Cop knew this was going to happen and jumped ship whilst he still had the chance to command premium fees? If his contract had been bought he may have gotten a little less as there wasnt an incentive to tempt him away................

Anyway, my dream of Sakakibaba sending him there to win the title and then have a showdown with the current Pride champion (Fedor without doubt) in the New Year under Pride rules has crumbled lol

Allaboutmma.com or something like that had a phone interview with him today and he said there's no such deal signed as of right now.

hahahaha, BroadStreetBruiser, Noc, I and Lee Priest were spamming Lee's thread about Vince Taylor being in the IFBB and guest posing for the NABBA after Ron warned us not to. Good to be out, though. School's going good. How about you?

http://www.sherdog.com/news/news.asp?n_id=7048.  I know it is Sherdog, but it may be the beginning of the Ferttita revolution.  They would own WEC, UFC, Pride.  Elite XC just announced partnering with K1 Hero's.  How long will it be until those companies are bought by Zuffa.

it makes sense that even if he has signed the deal, then hes bound to silence before the unveiling of the purchasing party so not to "give" it away
