Victor Conte on Marion Jones' 'Poor Choices'

Victor Conte on Marion Jones' 'Poor Choices'

ABC News.com
January 11, 2008

“I feel very sad for Marion and her family. Marion did make some very poor choices and she does deserve serious consequences.

“I certainly don’t condone her repeated lies. But, I do feel especially bad for Marion’s mother and her two children. They didn’t lie or cheat or use performance enhancing drugs, yet they are also enduring great pain.

“I’ve also made some very poor decisions that caused similar torment for me as well as my family. It’s been difficult, but I’m working to earn the forgiveness of others. There is a saying in prison that inmates don’t do the time, their families do. Looking into a family member’s eyes and seeing the hurt you have caused is the most painful consequence.

“Marion was one of the most celebrated athletes in Olympic history and her mistakes have caused her to be stripped of everything she worked so very hard to achieve. There is no doubt in my mind that she has learned gigantic lessons.

“Hopefully, she will be able to serve as an example and help others to make good decisions. Marion is not a bad person. She is simply someone who made some bad decisions. Nonetheless, I’m optimistic that she, too, will someday find a way to be forgiven.”

What a fearful scenario, the idea that you'd actually start to believe that taking steroids was an incredible sin of jail-worthy proportion.

"save the sports!"

The only way to save pro. sports is to let it be in its current state. Every successfull athlete needs drugs to perform well in the top ranks. It has been like this since the 60/70's Why the hell do they think record after record has been crushed for the last 30/40 years?

Conte is a turd. I'd rather read Jose Canseco's new book in which he says that A-Rod hit on his wife and asked him about roids. 8)

Time has shown that Conte was the only one who was honest about everything. Marion Jones declerations of innocence looked really bad when she finally fessed up.  Conte said she was using the whole time.
His claims have been shown to be true and the book should be interesting.  ;D

I agree. Why does everyone hate the honest guy who tells thruth.
This way of thinking rewards the liars and cheats and condemns the honest and ethical?

Um, Canseco used drugs to get rich and famous.

Now he is snitching on others who did the same.

That's the bullshit here.  If it was just some joe schmoe reporter who was doing the ratting, that's fine, it's investigative journalism.  Here's a guy who was deep in the drug culture, used it to buy himself a mansion, then decided one day (when his fame and money subsided) to snitch on everyone.  Big difference.

It'd be like a pro bodybuilder waiting til he retired to give the DEA all his sources and info.  Hypocracy at its worst.

NFL's "Balco" type scandal on the horizon?

Do we have an NFL Balco type scandal?

Attorney says ex-Cowboy Lehr won't be indicted; investigators won't confirm statement

07:37 AM CDT on Thursday, April 24, 2008

By JASON TRAHAN / The Dallas Morning News

The attorney for former Dallas Cowboys lineman Matt Lehr, who has been under investigation for months on allegations that he distributed steroids to other NFL players, said Wednesday that his client would not be indicted.

"We have been told by the prosecutors that they do not intend to bring charges against Matt Lehr in connection with their ongoing steroid investigation," said Paul Coggins in Dallas. "After reviewing the evidence gathered to date, the government reached the right conclusion."

John Ratcliffe, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Texas, which is conducting the investigation, would not confirm Mr. Coggins' statement.

"We are actively investigating the distribution of illegal steroids and human growth hormone," he said. "As a matter of policy, we neither identify nor comment upon persons of interest in ongoing investigations."

Last year, Mr. Lehr's name surfaced in the investigation into the steroids distribution network run by his friend, Plano personal trainer and amateur bodybuilder David Jacobs. Mr. Jacobs, 35, has pleaded guilty, along with six other co-defendants, to charges that they conspired to traffic anabolic steroids and human growth hormone all over the country. All are awaiting sentencing.

Mr. Lehr received a four-game suspension in 2006 for violating the NFL's banned-substance policy while he was with the Atlanta Falcons. After the suspension, Mr. Lehr continued to attend bodybuilding shows, which are heavily attended by steroid users and dealers.

Mr. Coggins called his client's suspension a "wake-up call," and added that "since then, he has played by the rules and looks forward to a long and productive career in the NFL."

Mr. Lehr played for the Cowboys from 2001 to 2004. He recently signed a free-agent contract with the New Orleans Saints after being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The details of his new contract have not been released.

Hank Hockheimer, attorney for Mr. Jacobs, declined to comment on Mr. Coggins' statement.

nope because the NFL will do this behind closed doors unlike the MLB who fucked over the very players that made them billions and help resurrect baselball after the greedy assholed went on strike,

MLB was forced by the media to do it the way they did. NFL wouldn't be any different if enough attention is on it.

This is a kind of an interesting discussion about BALCO, Barry Bonds, the Cream and Clear, anti-doping
policies, EPO, etc. He says drugs are still used by the majority of elite athletes.
