All-time Best Actress
« on: April 01, 2007, 01:33:14 PM »
Best, non-porn movie actress of all time?

I'll start: Gwyneth Paltrow.

Some movies where she delivered: Sliding Doors, Talented Mr Ripley, Royal Tenenbaums, Hard Eight.

Conclusion: She can do a lot of different stuff, and she always comes through.

Honorable mention: Emily Watson.

Not even close. She is over-rated and overhyped...and extremely irritating.

#1 - Cate Blanchett - clasically trained and classic actress.
#2 - Meryl Streep - her role as the lonely Italian farm wife in "Bridges of Madison County" was excellent.
#3 - Judi Dench - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judi_Dench (most know her as "M" from the Bond movies but she's also a classic actress)
#4 - Of all the current young(er) actresses, Hilary Swank has grown and matured faster and better than any of the others in her field...and can act on par or better than almost all of the most established male actors in today's genre.

All good choices. Very good. Cannot argue against one of them.

Hilary Swank made the Black Dahlia watchable, she's got potential.

Meryl Streep, I have to mention her performance in Deer Hunter... WOW.

Cate Blanchett, awesome in so many movies, I loved her when she played against Bruce Willis and Thornton in that heist/"buddy" type movie.

Dench, well.. I have to say I think she's slightly overrated though. But she's a fine actress, no doubt.

OnlyMe: Question - How many serious actresses have you met or have had the chance to converse with? Every once in a while one reads somewhere that some of these people have a strong presence in person...does anyone stand out in this regard? Just curious if anyone really impressed you when you interacted with them (her)? Thanks.

Katherine Hepburn is widely regarded as the best actress of all time.  I never liked her much myself.

When I worked on Dynasty I was hoping to meet Joan Collins but didn't.  Linda Evans played in a tennis tournament I played in Boca Raton.  She was very nice but not even close to being as pretty as she is on TV at 7am in the morning with NO makeup on.  I worked with Jacklyn Smith and got to be friends with her (for at least a week anyway).  Catherine Bach (Dukes of Hazzard) and me got to be really close friends one night.  We had a blast playing golf too.  Susan Anton is very nice and friendly.  I worked with Danielle Von Zerneck (played Donna in the La Bamba movie).  She called me disgusting.  She ad the room next to mine at the hotel.  I had a different girl over each night that played in the movie as bikini models.  She thought I should 't be fucking the other cast members.  I didn't see anything wrong.  Nicolette Sheridan called me an asshole when I worked on Knotts Landing.  I played Donna Mills bodyguard on the episode she gets married on.  She to is hot.  Maureen McCormick who played Marsha on the Brady Bunch was nice.  She introduced me to her parents and husband.  I told her how I dreamed about her as a kid.  I can't remember he name but the girl who played Ellie May on Beverly Hillbillies was nice.  She watched my baby daughter when I was busy.  I know there are more but nothing really big.  No girl really stuck out or I got all excited cause I finally got to work with them or whatever.  I know if I stayed in LA and in the business and went to more parties I would have met allot more people but I just didn't want to.

The #1 person I ever wanted to meet was Muhammed Ali and I did that and allot more with him.  I was not even close to being a star or anything in Hollywood but I was lucky enough to work with some good people when I did.  It was more of the thigs I got invited to do that got me to met these people.  I always got invited to play in golf, tennis tournaments.  I did allot of openings and things, not much TV mostly commercials.  I could have done more but was traveling too much
