Not sure how he is Mr. Universe but this guy was running low on blood sugar.
So the authorities wrestled him to the ground thinking he was drunk.
No he faces charges....

Mistaken for drunk, Mr. Universe is arrested

REDWOOD CITY, California (AP) -- The reigning Mr. Universe faces assault and resisting arrest charges following a run-in with police who mistakenly believed the diabetic bodybuilder was intoxicated.

Doug Burns, 43, was sprayed with Mace and wrestled to the ground by officers who were summoned to a movie theater Sunday night by a security guard, authorities said.

Burns, who was trying a new diabetes drug that night, said Monday he was preparing to see a film when he felt dizziness and poor vision -- a sign of low blood sugar -- and hurried to a snack counter.

The security guard noticed Burns' strange behavior and asked him to leave, thinking he was intoxicated, Redwood City Police Capt. Chris Cessina said.

When officers arrived, Burns allegedly lunged at one of them, pushing him to the ground with both hands, and took a fighting stance, Cessina said. Burns continued being combative until four officers wrestled him down, the captain said.

During the scuffle, the officers did not notice Burns' Medic Alert bracelet. An on-scene medical test later confirmed that Burns had low blood sugar during the incident, Cessina said.

Despite the misunderstanding, Burns was charged with misdemeanor assault and resisting arrest.

"The fact is Mr. Burns assaulted our officer," Cessina said. "If he had just stood there and let us help him, maybe they would have called the medics if he didn't seem to fit the description of being under the influence."

Burns, a board member of the American Diabetes Association who often speaks to raise awareness about the condition, said he doesn't remember the incident clearly.

"I could understand if I was belligerent or had track marks, but I was nicely dressed and I don't think I fit the profile or smelled like alcohol," Burns told the San Mateo Daily Journal.

A court date has not yet been set in the case.

When my blood sugar gets really low the last thing I would do is want to fight. I know it makes you delusional but come on. Mine has been down in the 40's and all I wanted to do was lay there.

I can understant the cops doing what they had to do, but charging his with assault after they found out his condition is wrong, some cops and their departments just love abuse their power.

This will be one hell of a law suit. I know of a case that has occurred similar to the case at hand, a jury found for the plaintiff for millions. What will occur depends on the attorneys and the actual facts of this specific case....

I live about a 9 iron from Redwood City and trust me the cops are dicks...When I was younger and use to cruise my Chevelle around they would pull me over just to fuck with me for having no front license plate and when I asked them if they pulled over every new vette ('cause they dont come with one) they couldn't answer me...

From what I understand, his damages were very minor. He should seek several thousand dollars and the dismissal of all charges, though, because he'll probabably get it.

they did the right job. they had no idea what he was suffering from, he refused medical attention and attacked an officer. he was in enough delusion to do that, which means he was capable of hurting himself or another civilian. if those cops didnt show up, who knows what could have happend to him.

he got a citation for hitting a sworn police officer. what if he shot the cop? is his medical condition an excuse too? from what i know people with a low blood sugar level dont go into a state of rage. the courts will figure out if his actions were justified -thats not our job. if the court and the doctors say what he did was a result of his medicine, then he'll walk out with nothing.

Dude diabetics sometimes act MUCH different when they're low on bloodsugar. I know a girl, if shes reallly low she'll start saying crazy shit that makes no sense.
