How is a bb considered an athlete
« on: April 03, 2007, 11:08:17 AM »
First off, I am not out to offend anyone with this post. I want to have a legit conversation about this.

The fact is bb takes hard work, dedication, genetics and drugs. There is no athleticism involved imo. You eat, sleep, tan, lift and shit. You then step on stage and flex. What a bb does is no different then a women who is training for, and competing in beauty pageants. Obviously bb has become a freak show so the beauty part does not apply, but the main idea is the same. Yes, a lot of bb's are former athletes. But most where not good enough to make it into a pro leauge of some type, or stopped playing sports due to injury. You could be the most god awful athlete in the world, but if you have the right genetics, and response to drugs, you could be a world champion bb.

Let me see a single bb do something like in the link I posted below. While bodybuilder's are very dedicated they are not athletes imo. No more then a chick who diets, trains , tans and stands on stage competing in a pageant. No disrespect meant by this post. Chick would lead you to believe bb's are among the worlds top athletes ::) You have to admire the dedication pro bb's show, just cannot see how they would be classified along side pro athletes.

You're right. People like body88 who do not really, truly, put their hearts into their workouts are not athletes. They are armchair warriors.

I fucken put my heart and soul into my workout and am an athlete through and through.

I put plenty of dedication into working out. I eat clean and train pretty hard. I do not walk around thinking I am a athlete because of that. My point was not to start a flame war.

I stated an opinion. You know this board can be used for other shat that does not have to do with ownings. I did not type anything that was inflammatory. If you do not agree with what I said, post why. No war.

I have a ton of respect for bb's. I happen to like the ironage look mostly, but I like some of the current competitors also.

How is a baseball player an athlete?  while in the field he stands there not moving 99% of the time, some of them smoke, most of them drink, the majority of them take drugs as in mr. soon to be home run king.
the NFL?  all human growth hormone takers, mutants of science.

sorry, your bubble has busted.

Because it takes a superior level of athletic ability to play the game at the highest level. A pro bb works out, takes drugs, and sleeps. Then he gets on stage and squeezes his muscles. A guy like dave Henrey is considered a top "athlete" in his sport. The guy is like 5'2.

My little friend.........baseball players are light years ahead of any bodybuilder in athletic ability.  I'll spare you the details why because you and Garreath or whatever his name is will never grasp it.

You have one flaw in your post.  There is skill involved in being a pro baseball or football player.  Drugs enhance a skill which is already there.  Not just anyone can take drugs, have a decent response to them, then go and knock 70 home runs out of the park...doesn't work that way.  In bodybuilding, there is absolutely zero skill require, which is why so many are involved and can make pretty good gains...with drugs that is.  The drugs come into play for most who can't achieve much naturally.  To achieve a great physique naturally requires a level of dedication most people simply do not have, this is why many are on gear.  Kind of like a consolation prize for a lesser work ethic and horrid genetics.
Of course there are exceptions to every rule, there are some who obtain a great physique and choose to take gear to win $4 trophies.

Anyone who does not understand this concept is pissing into the wind.
I'll assume you're joking on this one.  Michael Jordan probably doesn't have the skill needed to be a pro bodybuilder.  No way could he handle the complex maneuvering of a front double bicep...haah

haha, why do you say this?

The HARDEST (by far) part of working out with Milos is the dexterity and muscle control required. This takes much practice. Just like shooting from the freethrow line takes practice to get your dexterity and muscle control to the point where you can hit it every time.

Ever try posing? For real? omg, talk about control.

This is getting ridiculous. Any spaz can bodybuild. Posing? Are you kidding me!  Dude, you're not an athlete!

If you think that anyone with genetics and gear can became a PRO you don't know anything about BB. So you are saying that you don't need hardwork to became a Pro Bb ( what a stupid statement). That shows the your level of complete stupiddity.

Ya, ok,  thats why 99.9 % of bodybuilders can't reach anywhere close to a pro level.

Fellas! Fellas!   Bodybuilding is a show! Not a sport!  A few are freakier than all the rest and they make some money at it. The rest, like me, do it as a hobby.
