Palease, Bobby. If bodybuilding was a sport and bodybuilders were anything remotely resembling athletes, this thread wouldn't even come up.

It comes up because people need to justify their own lack of success by bringing it down to their level...otherwise, they wouldn't care either way.

What can athletic skill can a pro bber do that I cannot, and how does it make them a pro bber?

I am not successful because I do not believe bb's are athletes? Where was I disrespectful in my post? Yea Chick you are right up there with the likes of Manny Ramirez, Jordan and Ladanian Tomlinson  ::) Typical... Anyone who doe not agree with you is jealous or unsuccessful.

Get onstage and compete in a pro BB competition....

Maybe he is not into posing in next to nothing? Which is ok. I am not saying there is anything wrong with competing in bb shows. Some may not be into that type of thing. Still failing to see how a pro bb is comparable to a pro nfl, mlb, nba or nhl player. Oh I forgot pro football/soccer players also.

It's not comparable...that's my whole point. Go back and re-read my post....it doesn't HAVE to be comparable.

They are DIFFERENT sports, and DIFFERENT types of athletes. Some sports are more athletic than others....and BTW...I never singled you out, just made a generalization...if it fits you, then so be it, if it doesn't... then you wouldn't take offense anyway...

Sport is human excellence in physical activity. Bodybuilding is the cultivation appearance of being able to excel in physical activity; it is not sport. Thus competing in bodybuilding doesn't make one an athlete.

thereare lots of "skills" that pro bb requires....training properly and training with the ability to build a pro calliber physique is a skill unto itself....thats what seperates people that train with weights, from being a pro bb. Training while on a carb-specific diet is a skill which requires incredible mental discipline...posing and displaying your physique is a skill, the ability to flex all muscles at the same time...skill of accentuating strong points, while hiding weak points....

the bottom line is....it is what it is.....bb is different and unique, but still a sport and still has athletes that make up it's roster.

there are many "sports" that dont fall into the typical mold....is cliffdiving a sport? whats the skill...jumping off a mountain into water? How about nascar? are they "athletes", and is it a sport?

this argument is old and tiresome....

I train for competition, I dont have to run the forty...shoot free throws, or do the iron cross on the rings, no more than each of those respective athletes have to train different bodyparts everyday, do 2 hours of cardio, or perform 3 rounds of posing while depleated and dehydrated.

There are different kinds of sports, and different types of athletes.

end of debate.

in case you missed it the first time around....walk a mile in my shoes.

I doubt a pro bber could walk a mile. Secondly those "skills" that you note are not physical. Is Miss Universe an athlete because she competes in peagents?

I never knew Ms. Universe had to deplete, or dehydtare, or do drop sets, or 170lb. incline DB presses, etc.... or do 3 rounds of mandatory poses....as I said, talking about whether or not what we do is a physical activity or not, when you've never done it yourself, is comical.

I imagine that certain bodybuilding lifting techniques are a skill to master in the same way me and my team try to master olympic style lifts(both very technical).  Olympic lifting is considered a sport, so why shouldn't bodybuilding be?  The performance in olympic lifting is the lift, the performance in bodybuilding is the physique, at least my opinion.

Olympic lifting is functional, bodybuilding is isolation.

so you define a sport on whether it's training is "fuctional"? Archery is sport, how is it's training fuctional by your standards? That logic doesn't make sense to me however powerlifts are functional, and are used by bodybuilders.

Your right, he'd have to do nothing. You win by how you look and ONLY by how you look.

I don't consider myself having a lack of success in bodybuilding, I got fed up with the industry bullshit and wasn't willing to do what it takes, if you recall quite a few years ago on Mayhem, Prince and I had this same argument that went on forever about the amount of gear that it took and he made the comment "well, maybe if you would have taken "all that gear" I might have turned pro..............the rest is history and you know how that turned out!!

To me, bodybuilding seems to be more like figure skating, or gymnastics.  All of them train in order to do a routine that showcases whatever skill is needed to demonstrate the sport.  I suppose the skill in bodybuilding is muscle building combined with conditioning and aesthetics.
