Don't post much...
Why would someone be hostile about bodybuilding on a related site?
Kind of like going to an NFL or MLB site and saying that tennis is more of an athlete's sport.
In the end, why would we force our opinions on others, when it does not affect anyone's liberty?

I'm not a bodybuilder, but I respect the achievement.  I love training.  What's your reason for being here?

wow...some of the dumbest analogies i've seen yet.

Bob, you were more of an athlete on that American Gladiator show than you are as a competitive bodybuilder. Considering bodybuilders athletes is a loooong reach.

haha, you sound like Dr. Suess.  ;D

Do I in a car, on the road, with a toad, in a bar? Do I? Sam I am.

Is green eggs and ham considered good bodybuilding nutrition?

Show me where in the original post there was any "hostile" comments. You dont have to hate bb's to think a pro bb is not a true proffesional athlete. I respect bb's and I love to train. I am wondering how they are in the same class as pro nfl, mlb, nhl and nba players. I admire many pros dedication and drive.

How is this point not valid

"If the relation of being physical and skilled is the criteria for being an athlete, then Lumberjacks and Ditchdiggers should be considered"

The argument is futile at best..."How is a BB considered an athlete"? is the question.

Answers have been given on both sides of the debate...the bottom line is, "considered" by WHO? Nameless guys on the internet?
Guys who have never stepped on a stage, or have the slightest idea of what it's like to train for competition?

I don't find it too coincidental that almost 100% of the people that have competed (especially at the pro level) consider BBers athletes and it a sport....and almost 100% of those who have arent pro's, compete, etc....don't.

I don't really care if people consider it a sport, or me an athlete... either way my check(s) come in the mail every month by people/ companies that consider me one.

Because Lumberjacks and ditchdiggers aren't in competition...they are OCCUPATIONS/ JOBS. They don't get judged, they don't have points awarded, or score goals.

Amazing I have to explain this....

Does anyone accept the term "physique athlete" as opposed to "performance athlete?"

Saying a bb is not an athlete in the traditional sense doesn't belittle the pursuit.  Professional bowlers better fit the description of an "athlete" since they execute a practiced skill to win a game (no, posing isn't in the same sense!), but I have far less respect for bowlers than bodybuilders.

You're right. People like body88 who do not really, truly, put their hearts into their workouts are not athletes. They are armchair warriors.

I fucken put my heart and soul into my workout and am an athlete through and through.

You're a dumbass through and through.

Glad someone can think....

As I've tried to explain...there are different types of athletes, not all fall into the same category as Football and baseball players.

It's like using the word "cars" to describe every automobile out there...what kind of car? Ford? Chevy? Buick? sportscar? etc.......

Of people that are "actors"....when are you considered an actor? SAG card? Actually on a TV show/ movie? Commercials? Are people that are in community plays considered "actors"?

Before even making a statement ....do you even work out really? What is your competitive experince. You talk like you know anything about BB. Please find a different  Forum if you are so ignorant about BB. This after all is a BB site.

"Do you even workout?"......

LMAO!!!!!!

If you guys had ANY CLUE what I look like (i.e. if I posed a pic here for you to mess with) you'd feel like COMPLETE idiots.

Garreth, I played a real sport in college.  Bodybuilding is a vain pursuit of self-improvement (or self-abuse if you want to be a fatass all year like Alex).  It is an ACTIVITY that involves compulsion to the max, selfishness and vainity.  A SPORT?  Get real!  Look at the way a competition is JUDGED...it's all SUBJECTIVE!  There is nothing objective about it.  I bodybuild now to give me something to do and because it's amusing to me to have guys who take gear out the wazzoo stare at me with jealousy.  I laugh at them, as I laugh at guys who think bodybuilding is a sport.

It's an activity.

Bob, I doubt they consider you an athlete. They just have to give lip service to bodybuilders being athletes the same as you do. Ronnie Coleman who can't even walk without breathing heavy is an athlete? Give me a break.

Bob, if bodybuilders are athletes how come so many get messed up health like Tom Prince, Flex etc...  and how come so many die prematurely? Athletes are supposed to be healthy.

Bob, if it is a sport and you are an athlete, then how come the I.O.C. doesn't think so? Jesus, they even consider snowboarding a sport. The top snowboarders get VISA commercials. What national ad campaign has any bodybuilder ever been in?

Get onstage and compete in a pro BB competition....

Put on the pads and try to make a level 2 semi-pro team. Hell Bob, I would be willing to bet you couldnt even earn a starting position on a Div III College football team.

The avg life of of a Football player is 9.5 years less that the avg Expectancy life of the American population. Mike Jordan had several surgerys before even turning 40. Please educate yourself....Athletes are supposed to be Healthy....You are in a Dream world ...........

Either way, you're still a moron -- we're not discussing bbing as a sport, we're discussing bbers as athletes. You can't even figure that part of the debate out.

Garreth, THAT'S NOT ME YOU STUPID PIECE OF SHIT!  For the 1,000,000th time, you all do not have my NAME, AGE, HEIGHT, WEIGHT or PHOTO right on here.  You all are dumb as shit!!

LMAO at that photo!  He looks like a lawn-service worker.  Which one of you dub that up somewhere and why did you think that was me?

Unreal.  Why in the hell do you think I'd eve BE ON A BODYBUILDING FORUM if I looked like that?

The bottom-line is that a couple fat boys on here are mad that they can't get a picture out of me and tried to do some P.I. work and dug up the wrong name, photo, age, weight, height, vocation...everything.  You guys are dumb as SHIT!  You could look at the myspace "getbig" group and figure out who the hell I am.  You talk about shoddy P.I. work...what a bunch of amatuer morons!
