"Do you even workout?"......

LMAO!!!!!!

If you guys had ANY CLUE what I look like (i.e. if I posed a pic here for you to mess with) you'd feel like COMPLETE idiots.

Garreth, I played a real sport in college.  Bodybuilding is a vain pursuit of self-improvement (or self-abuse if you want to be a fatass all year like Alex).  It is an ACTIVITY that involves compulsion to the max, selfishness and vainity.  A SPORT?  Get real!  Look at the way a competition is JUDGED...it's all SUBJECTIVE!  There is nothing objective about it.  I bodybuild now to give me something to do and because it's amusing to me to have guys who take gear out the wazzoo stare at me with jealousy.  I laugh at them, as I laugh at guys who think bodybuilding is a sport.

It's an activity.

Here, here.  Great summation.

Because Lumberjacks and ditchdiggers aren't in competition...they are OCCUPATIONS/ JOBS. They don't get judged, they don't have points awarded, or score goals.

Amazing I have to explain this....
Well then let's talk about people who do compete and are not considered athletes.

Professional Ballroom Dancers.

Just like Pro bodybuilders ::), the competitors:
1. Have to be very skilled and technically precise (can't fake bad dancing).
2. Are very physically fit. I am more than sure they are better "conditioned" than the best pro bbers.
3. Spend countless hours of repetitions (dance steps) to perfect technique and skill level.
4. Have to have a good look, meaning they can't be too fat or chunky. They stay on a pretty good diet throughout  the whole year.
5. Use artificial coloring to darken their skin so lights don't "wash" them out.
6. Wear elaborate costumes to enhance their presentations.
7. Compete against other couples to win first place.

These are most of the same criteria for Pro bbers, but they don't considered themselves athletes. They consider themselves as competitive dancers. As do most people.

BTW, besides Melvin Anthony and a few others, I really can't think of a Pro, a caucasian one anyway, that have the "skill" to pose gracefully. A lot of the Ironagers were pretty good (Zane, Corney, even Arnold) but today's Pros are really bad at presentation.

You're an idiot, Garreth.  I've never uploaded a photo or sent out a PM on this stupid-ass, juvenile forum.   If any of you had any freaking sense, you could figure out who I am from looking into jakers1021...but none of you are that damn smart.

Morons.

BTW, bodybuilding is as much of a sport as hunting.

I am a female figure competitor/bodybuilder, runner, spin instructor, and bicylcist, and full time and let me tell you, there is more outside of competing on stage than just standing there for 5 minutes and posing. I AM  an athlete. I have been an athlete all my life since I was a dancer in the beginning. And the unfortunate thing is, it is not an industry you get into to make money, or retire from. It is something you do along with the other activities in life. and the best thing about it, is if I get injured guess, what I have something else to fall back on. No one should be talking smack about anyone, because nothing is better than anything else. I am not knocking football, cause you know what, it takes a lot to want to be on a field and have someone knock the crap out of you. I am not knocking baseball, cause you know what, they might be standing most the time on the field, but those guys are set for life after retirement. Whether you play tennis, raquetball, basketball, softball, golf, whatever the sport may be, show me the average american who will get off their lazyboy and do what all of us do. because in the end it is about health and taking care of yourself, whether do it "naturally" or you "cycle."

Anybody can BB. Anybody can drive a car. Just because you do either doesn't make you an athlete, or athletic. Not every body can play in the NBA, NFL, PGA, NHL because it requires SKILL, and ATHLETICISM !!!! Pushing weight, regardless of how dedicated to it you are, requires no skill.

It's not about talking smack. It's defining whether or not Pro or Amatuer bodybuilders are considered athletes. I consider them competitors, like ballroom dancers, Nascar drivers, billiard players, bowlers, golfers etc.

I don't disrespect what they do because I am aware of the sacrafices that are made. I just don't believe that bodybuilders should be considered "athletes".

How about someone looks it up.

ath·lete      /ˈćθlit/ Pronunciation Key - Spelled Pronunciation[ath-leet]
–noun
a person trained or gifted in exercises or contests involving physical agility, stamina, or strength; a participant in a sport, exercise, or game requiring physical skill.

Bodybuilding doesn't require physical agility, or stamina, or strength actually.

So could it be a sport? Well, let's look that one up too.

sport      /spɔrt, spoʊrt/ Pronunciation Key - Spelled Pronunciation[spawrt, spohrt]
–noun
1.   an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.

Hmmmm, well, bodybuilding is competative, buuuut then again, that's not obligatory to be a sport now is it. So, does bodybuilding take physical prowess then? To the dictionary one last time...

prow·ess      /ˈpraʊɪs/ Pronunciation Key - Spelled Pronunciation[prou-is]
–noun
1.   exceptional valor, bravery, or ability, esp. in combat or battle.

Does a bodybuilder need valor? No. Bravery? No. Ability? Well, how do you feel like defining ability. If that includes genetics yes, but the fair majority of bodybuilders are working with crap for genetics, so nope. And Flex Wheeler is the only person to ever refer to bodybuilding as combat or battle.

Then, by definition, bodybuilding is not a sport, and bodybuilders are not athletes.

most pro bbs call themselves athletes because they want to inflate what they do. goes right along with inflating their lifts, their paychecks, etc etc. just another way to boost up that ego and help all those insecurities.

garreath thinking he is an athlete just shows how deep his insecurities lie when he isnt even close to being a competitive bb at any level. of course, we already knew he had problems by admitting he used synthol when he was still a fat fuck.

heck, most guys get into bodybuilding when they realize they arent good enough to continue in real sports that real athletes excel at.

Most losers call bodybuilding a hobby. Well because they are losers.
I could play in the NFL if I want to .....I just do wanted to do what it takes- translation- I am a loser
Any one could be a Pro if I take enough gear- Translation - I am a Dellusional Loser-

-  Was one step away from professional baseball...

-  Last show was last October (second, open light-heavies)

-  "Do you workout"...LMAO!!

FWIW, bodybuilding and hunting being compared (regarding neither being a sport) is a valid comparison.

The avg life of of a Football player is 9.5 years less that the avg Expectancy life of the American population. Mike Jordan had several surgerys before even turning 40. Please educate yourself....Athletes are supposed to be Healthy....You are in a Dream world ...........

The average life of a football player is 9.5 years less than the general population. BULLSHIT? Where did you pull that stat from? Your ass? Does it mean high school player? Division one college player? does it mean CFL, NFL? Sandlot ::) As far as having surguries I had several surguries before 40. DUH. Many people do. A root canal is a surgury, fixing a broken nose is s surgury many times. And they are non-athletetics related DUH. Having surguries to repair torn ligaments and a broken leg like Jordan did DOESN'T MEAN YOU AREN'T healthy DUH. Thats a lot different than croaking from anabolic drug abuse DUH!

So you've defined three completely irrelevant premises of what YOU think an athlete is.

heh, you have to be in a VISA commercial to be an athlete. You're funny.

G man. Just saying bodybuilders are lower on the pecking order than even say- anybody. ;)

Again, snow boarding and stuff like that are legit Olympic sports. Ben Weider worked for 50 years to get bodybuilding to be recognized as an Olympic sport to no avail. What does that tell you?

So I take it that anyone who claims BB is not a sport has never competed.

So that being the case and BB is not a sport, Rather than being on a BB site and praising/supporting your favorite athlete, the group consesus of the posters on this thread is

You all are on the boards to worship male muscle.

This is one of the biggest group self ownings in Getbig history.  You guys are as Gay as Organic Vegetables!!!  8)

Sports in general are not healthy any longer. Football players are known to occur several head injury and trauma post ret.
The use of Drugs is vast to ALL sports and Olympic games. No tests for GH, IGF-1, genetic inhibitors, modern anabolics have half-life of only a few hours in the blood.
It's not because you are unable to achieve something that you must put it down. Do not illude yourself and think that you are just a few injections away form Ronie or Jay. Genetis, Hardwork, Time and drugs are what makes a Pro BB or as a matter of act any other athlete. (Bonds, Giambi, Lance...that list goes on .....)
