Manfredo stuns Calzaghe!
« on: April 07, 2007, 03:15:20 PM »
and lasts til the third round  ;D

ha ha ok it might have been a premature stoppage but atleast the guy was able to walk out of the ring. 20 seconds more and he could have been on his way to the hospital, he was completely outclassed from the opening bell

Both fights were shit!

Really want to see Khan in with someone who can punch. I have a feeling that he's going to end up like Alex Arthur and get stopped before he reaches world class.

Calzaghe v Kessler will be a great fight.

Macarinelli's fight was a let down aswell, the guy offered almost no resistance at all so how they can call that a good fight for him i dont know. Anyway British boxing is still looking good for the future, Khan isnt as good as they make him out to be though. Hes the same as Lee McAllister in that hes made his name fighting no marks (although IMO as a pro boxer Mcallister will always be a no mark) and the time will come when hes going to find that all the hype in the world cant save you when your opponent is better

Macarinelli's fight was entertaining imo.

Manfredo was out of his league. Its a shame cause one of these losers will end up hurt, the ref did a good job  he was about to get killed.

I thought the fight was ended a little prematurely.

It was kind of funny the way Manfredo said he was waiting for Calzaghe to "stop" hitting him before he made his move. When was that going to be...the 4th round?

Yeah. Okay. How about telling your fucking hero to grow some balls and fight in the states where the real opposition is! Calzaghe is good but his biological clock is ticking in the sport at age 35. He needs to shedcule big fights NOW in the the United States while he still has some juice left.

Yeah, he dominated Jeff Lacy but ON HIS OWN TURF! He's turned down big fights in the past because he would not fight in the states.

eh wtf is with the meltdown? it doesnt matter where he fights, hes never needed the judges to help him win a fight or a ref to intervene. Lacy was completely exposed by him as an inferior boxer and Manfredo had no business being in the ring with him. What does it matter where he fights as long as people are willing to fight him? We will see him fighting in the States soon enough, remember people have also dodged him for years. Dont worry superman, atleast your reality tv hero and your gobshite wannabe champion will get to fight another day

Meltdown? I happen to respect the guy very much but I hate the fact that his promoters are virtually unwilling to bring his talent to the states.

It's been well documented that he has passed on fights because of his unwillingness to fight overseas. It matters PLENTY where he fights. He's dodged fighters in the past on his own terms. The states are where the big money fights are. Why do you think he's not as nationally recognized as fighters a step below his caliber??

It's time to take the diapers off, bottom line.

its true enough but he WILL fight in Vegas soon enough no doubt. With the talent he has hes not going to have alot of problems with adjusting to fighting overseas. All he wants is super crowds - 30,000 + that know him and appreciate his skills. Hey Elvis never came to the UK, doesnt mean we cant appreciate the guys talent without question  ;D

I hear you. But he's 35 years old and not getting any younger.

The time is now. He'll have to settle for fighting in from of $17,000 people at a Vegas casino and millions more on pay per view. I'm sure he can deal with that considering he would get a piece of the gate and PPV byrates.

I love the guy but I want to see him fight some marquee names, you know?

Who would Joe fight in the States?

The big fight for him is Kessler, and I think that will only happen in Denmark or Wales.

At first, I recognized the stoppage as clearly premature, but rationalized it on the grounds that the outcome seemed to be an inevitability.  Then comes the news that Calzaghe's hand was fractured.  Now I wonder.  At a minimum, the referee should be suspended and not allowed to work another title bout.

you have to realise that Manfredo was not interested in hitting back, he was terrified of benig in there. Joe wasnt really hurting him but he could have severely damaged him had he continued. IMO he should retire because his hands are shit, every other fight they break and he has nothing left to prove. If hes fighting for his ego then he will be smacked down to earth sooner or later. At the moment that will be later because nobody can touch him just now

lol, Manfredo, what a joke.

He probably thinks that winning the contender makes him the best in the world. The poor deluded fool was taught a boxing lesson

Mate, he couldn't even win the contender. He lost to Mora in the final.

I don't disagree.  I just think the person to teach that lesson should not have been the referee.  Calzaghe was almost as much of a victim of the ref as Manfredo was.

why do the americans always harp on that there fighters are streets ahead, with calzaghe, whats the difference between him going to america and an american coming over hear, it doesnt make him a bad fighter going to another country, everybody i spoke to from america before the lacy fight said calzaghe would be destroyed, then they turn around and say if only the fight was in america. how many fighters does he have to beat to gain the approval of the american nation, without doubt calzaghe is the best super-middle in the world

Fighting in front of your home crowd is an advantage.  Period.  It's not just boxing, it's any sport.  He must fight in the states or his legacy will not be complete.  Sorry, mate.
