NESTA?
« on: April 08, 2007, 11:16:33 AM »
Have you guys heard of a certification organization named NESTA?
Every piece of info I get about them is just their website.

Anything you know would be appreciated.  Thanks

Are you looking into it for yourself??  And it depends for what?? You want to be a PT at a major gym, you  might have to go with something a little more reputable.

But if you need a cert just to have a cert, by all means.... ;D

Thanks a lot for the reply.

Yes, I'm looking into it myself.....sort of.   I am a gym owner and have just started to hire a few personal trainers.   I am new in this industry and don't have much info about certification commissions except for the well-known ones.

Last week a guy e-mailed me and he said that he was "NESTA-certified."   We also talked on the phone.  He said he majored in sports medicine in college and he seems like a nice guy, knowing what customer care is all about.

However, I just don't want to risk my business by hiring guys who have trash certifications.

On this forum I am just trying to get opinions from a third party.   A reality check, so to speak.

Most gyms accept a BS in sports medicine, in place of a cert.  But I wonder if he did major in that field why he went with NESTA?  Unless he already had the cert?

In any case, someone with the degree is most likely going to know more than someone with ONLY a cert.  Not always, but a safe bet. ;)

What you are saying sounds reasonable.  Why bother to get certified if you have a degree in sports medicine?     I hope that he is being honest with me about his degree.  I'm sure that talking with him in person would clarify a few things, but just thought that you guys knew anything about this certification.

Does anyone else know anything about NESTA?

Thanks in advance.

a mal(or anyone who can answer my question),

Thanks for the reply.

How do you think it compares with other certifications such as NSCA, NASM, etc. in terms of difficulty and target markets?

well its like i think the "course" is overkill.

Also you had to go interview personal trainers...i didnt think all of that was needed...and i cant compare to other programs because i havent done any of them . but nesta is cool..its pretty easy. basic
