McCain: I Didn't Need Armed Guard In Iraq
Senator Insists He Would Have Visited Baghdad Market Without Heavy Security

(CBS/AP) Republican presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain said he would have taken his tour of an Iraqi market last week even if he had not been accompanied by heavily armed U.S. soldiers.

McCain said he would have walked through a central Baghdad market without the military protection, but the top U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, had recommended the armed escort.

"I'm not notorious for being nervous about going anywhere," said McCain. "I'll gladly go almost anywhere in the world, under any circumstances, but I did respond and do what Gen. Petraeus asked me to do."

In that case, i would like to see repeated, weekly visits to iraqi markets.  McCain can take along 3 friends.  He can prove how safe it really is.

I'd settle for a single two-hour stop-and-chat with the local merchants. He does presumably have some job in the Senate he's supposed to be doing. But somehow, I don't see it happening.  :)

If he'd only taken his medicine in the 60 Minutes interview and then kept his mouth shut, he'd be able to try rebuilding the wreckage of his campaign.

Now he looks like a crybaby for blaming Petraeus. Plus he gets to look like a weasel every time someone asks him when he's going to do it solo and he says he now has "other priorities", a la Cheney.

Some fucking candidate.  ::)

3 friends...  oooooh... how about Bush, Cheney, & Gonzales... with Feith, Rumsfeld, & Ashcroft, as 1st runners up.. ya know... just in case for some reason, they're unable to complete their stroll?

...and Rupert Murdoch could be the cameraman who films it all.  :D

eh? McCain probably would have, went with a few armed men, McCain has been talking alot of shyte lately but he has balls you gotta give him that, I doubt any of the presidential hopefuls would even set foot outside without protection let alone walk in unfamiliar territory. I liked how it got blown up, and the cons used it, and it backfired on them, gotta love the blowback bush buddies face nowadays.

He needs to withdraw from the race and enjoy what time he has left with his wife and family.  He has little credibility left.  There is no shame in withdrawing.  He's had a distinguished career of service to his country.  We thank him for that, but his time is passed.

His age was always an issue, but with his poor fundraising and, most importantly, his out of touch stance on the war McCain is finished.  Hiring the very people who previously worked for Bush and trashed him and Kerry in their respective campaigns doesn't help.  It's time to go home.

So McCain is angling for the moron vote, I guess.

Makes sense. No one else would vote for him.

Bwahhahhhhaaaaaaaa

I bet they love eating ice cream cones and strolling through amusement parks while they dodge bombs and bullets. How many bombs did they dodge this week?

I wonder if any Iraqis were eating ice cream in these two neighborhoods.

The fierce fighting in central Baghdad shut down the Sunni-dominated Fadhil and Sheik Omar neighborhoods just after 7 a.m., the U.S. military said. After American and Iraqi troops came under fire during a routine search operation, helicopter gunships swooped in, engaging insurgents with machine gun fire.

Cotton candy repels Al Quida!

Rainbow sprinkles repel insurgents!

We don't need a 'green zone' - people are far safer in the roller coaster zone.

Nope, I saw it. I'm curious to know how much they enjoy eating their ice cream cones while they cower behind shelter as bombs detonate and bullets fly by their heads.

McCain commits political suicide by trying to fight this issue.

It's not really a big deal. But since he now makes it a big deal, it will stick with him for a long time.

It will probably become some type of joke, "to do a McCain" = to let your homeboys take the fight, then claim you could've done it all by yourself afterwards.

I think it's funny that a neotaint would bring up ice cream and an amusement park and claim it's proof the Iraqis are living a better life yet completely ignore the fact that bombs and bullets are going off in all directions.

As I said, I wonder if they enjoy eating their ice cream cones while cowering behind a shelter because a bomb just went off or because a firefight is happening.

please explain how they can secure an amusement park, but not things of great value to society, like ministries, markets, schools and govt buildings, or people.

What is the magic secret behind making roller coasters safe when the average iraqi can't drive down the street without fear of being blown up.

You always say you're "done" arguing right about the time you're asked a question you cannot answer.

Why would they secure an amusement park before religious, military, police, and commerce buildings are safe?

Answer that.

Would we protect Disneyland while people were setting of bombs in govt buildings and churches all day?  Fvck no, we wouldn't.  We'd guard what was important for our society's survival.

You're telling me those bassackwards clowns have secured a ferris wheel but police stations are still being blown up?  What a shit decision you're selling here, bud...
