Let me recount a story - for years I thought that heart disease ran in my family because my dumb fuck grandfather had a heart attack at age 57. He was classic Type A personality and having a heart attack over the age of 55 is no indication of a hereditary heart condition. Like I said, for years I kept on thinking my heart was my weak link and that I had some type of genetic problem there. Then in 2004 I learned from a med student (who has since graduated) that I do not. But for years I kept thinking I would die young due to heart disease.

Hans seemed to have the same opinion as me. He felt his life would be cut short and I wonder how that attitude transcended to physical factors (e.g., a lackadaisical attitude towards drug use) that actually did physiologically result in a young death.

I hope this makes sense to you. I mean it as no disrespect to Hans. I just don't think by any means Hans was destined to die before 50. I think his mentality had something to do with it also.

It's interesting, just yesterday I was thinking about Hans and found this page that I had never seen before on him:

Thanks for explaining...he felt he was not going to live past 50 because he knew exactly what was going into his body and he knew he did not have the type of body that could probably handle it all...it wasn't just pain meds and extra curricular fun drugs it was A LOT of stuff.
The Zone interview was a good one (my daughter is cute, huh?), he was glad he got to do it.
As for being 5'10", did i say different?
