Brazillian Jujitsu Instruction/School
« on: April 17, 2007, 03:17:20 PM »
I am looking into getting some instruction in the LA area.  From what I've read, I would like someone connected with the Gracie school.  Any thoughts?  Is it expensive, do they take anybody or do you need experience, what could I expect from the training/workouts etc.

Rickson Gracie International Jiu-Jitsu Center - BJJ
Instructor: Rickson Gracie
Instructor's teachers:
, West los Angeles, USA,

Ph: 310.914.4122`
Fax:
Url: www.rickson.com

^This would be the guy to learn from.^

Here is the next best thing in that area if Rickson is out of your range

John Machado Adademy - BJJ
Instructor: John Machado
Instructor's teachers:
Farmers Market 6333 W. 3rd St. Los Angeles, CA 90036, Los Angeles, USA, 90036
P.O. Box 7000-650 Redondo Beach, CA 90277
Ph: 323-937-7767`
Fax:

Email: studentcare@johnmachado.net

As a beginner you would probably just observe and do some light rolling (with no submissions) the first couple days.  Bjj is the most demanding sport ive done as far as cardio is concerned.  I remember when I first started Bjj, I thought since I was in boxing, my endurance would be decent.  It turns out it wasn't, and I gassed pretty fast.  I've heard of monthly tuitions being as low as $50.00 and as much as $300.00.

If you're in this area, give my buddy Shawn Williams a shot. He has a Renzo School out there and is a great black belt. I used to take privates with him. If you like fancy gi sweeps, he's your man.

Ever in Hawaii come to Bj's gym.  go to www.bjpenn.com

If you plan to compete you can usually stay at one of their houses for free while you train.

How much does he actually teach?  I rolled with him at a seminar in 1994.  He is a wizard, and subbed everyone at the seminar.  Scott Devine was at class, he is one of Relson's first BBs.  Great stuff he taught us.

well, i never took classes from him i just saw some seminars (a couple i think). He was very didatic. One of the best professors and fighters you could have is Royler Gracie, for me the second better Gracie after Rickson, better than Royce, but he lives in Brazil  ;D

Jean jacques would be another awesome option, he is known to be a great teacher

Royler lives in Brazil, but he's in the States often. I trained at a Royler affiliated school and had the pleasure of grappling (and tapping) against him several times. He seemed to like using me as his "demontration dummy" during his seminars at my school.  :P

That would be a 12 hour drive!  With the amount of great instruction in LA/SoCal, why drive to NorCal.  If I were in NorCal, I'd train with Dave Camarillo, BJJ black, as well as national level judo competitor.  BJJ instructor for AKA.
