Look at Petrucci's set. I'm just thinking out loud here but that to me seems like if you add enough drums and learn to function amongst them anybody can sound good. Let's see what he can do on Ringo's set.

he already played on a Ringo set (just a few pieces, like 2 toms only...) and actually, he USES ONE in his tour and recorded playing on one on the last album, so get your facts straight...
what did you say doesnt make sense at all, just look at guys like Virgil Donati or Thomas Lang...they dont use gigantic kits, in fact Virgil´s for instance its very simple...yet he is a Alien on creativity and playing skills...
more drums only means more options, sounds and 'layers' that can be add to the music...And it can only be effective when its use by someone who KNOW how to use it, like Mike
