It was a utilitarian self-sacrifice done to gain this justification from a dim population, as well as to justify their permission for domestic controls put in place to ensure their cooperation.

They were smarter than us. They were also smarter than the duped patsies who murdered their way into a cockpit only to be remote controlled to their fates. 

And if you wanted to look at the world in 20 years - with and without 9/11 - it would be a much scarier place WITHOUT it, had the middle eastern oil fallen into the hands of other nations.

well, no offense to the loose change kids, but they see it as a criminal investigation to "get to the bottom of".

I no longer do.

Anyone with a brain can look at the WTC7 collapse and the sham of an investigation and call it as collusion.  Throw in motive for all the cool wars we get to start, and the constant use of '911' catch phrase to justify everything, and it's obvious.

However the more advanced thinker will look at it and realize that he/she would rather live with it, then go back in time and change it and deal with $15 gallons of gas.  The only solution is to know about it.  So they can't pull another one and have anyone buy it.
