then they changed their minds when things go tough, thank god we have a tough president and not a flip flopper.

It can be done. First, we have to stop the enablers--Bush type people, auto/air industry, big oil/fossel fuel--who have been killing off mass transit/alternative oil research from day one.
Then we have to implement a robust program for alternative fuel R&D. We could go to the moon in a decade. We can make this happen.
