He's absolutely right. NOBODY can press as much with free weights as they can on a hammer strength machine.

HammerStrength machines are not intended to be used for HEAVY exercises.  I figured you all knew that.

why is it bullshit.  i use it as a finishing exercise, gives me great pumps.
Any exercise that gives you great pumps can work in other contexts not just at the end of the workout.

You're basing that only on amount of weight lifted; nothing to do with the effectiveness of the machine.

I think the point broadstreet is trying to make is that lots of people will skip doing the free weight exercises and use the hammer strength machines simply because it looks as if they are stronger because they can stack up more weight.

I know, but that's not the same as whether it works, which is more important.

what's the definition of "works" Chests look worse now then in the 70's when they didn't use that machine. I will say that I am VERY biased against machines due to them isolating the muscle almost completely where with free weights you work the surrounding muscles to some degree using free weights.

How their chests look is subjective and based on other factors, primarily genetics. Overall physiques have improved, in large part drugs but also the equipment. Vic Martinez loves some of the chest machines as one example. i've tried the same ones and agree; to me they're better than free weights.

That whole argument about working the surrounding muscles is only half a loaf. There are pros and cons, making it more a personal preference.

not considering bodyfat levels I'd say chests of the past looked way better then today. Viator, Arnold, Serge, Oliva, Columbu....

Splitting hairs; again look at the overall musculature and factor in genetics. If in 20 years that's still true i'd agree; it's mainly genetics.

Since you brought up Oliva he said unequivocally that the machines he used were better for the most part. LOL

I think that the hammer strength machines are good, but I'm also a believer that the foundation of a good weight training program starts with free weight excersises.  Again, I think lots of gym douchbags use the hammer strength machines solely for the purpose of looking stronger.  However, I will use them from time to time if there is no one at the gym to spot me.  The nice thing about the hammer strength machines, or most chest press machines for that matter, is that you can go really heavy without a spotter and not have to worry about killing yourself.

Bottom line about hammerstrength is it magnifies gym farts to a very loud volume and you look stupid farting and pressing six plates

Whatever the case, like pumpster said, it still doesn't take away the fact that the machine works.

Good but these are just your perceptions and preferences. :D A well-designed machine can be better, as in pullover machines that are clearly better than free weights. The best bicep workout i ever had was on a custom made leverage preacher bench in the gym Dickerson used to train in here in the late 70s. When was the last time your bis were actually sore from free weights other than after a layoff?

well, since we're talking about useless piece of shit people use, I might as well say this. The Ab belt shown below is in the list as the most useless piece of shit ever created. The FTC even investigated their claims and said that it's impossible to achieve such results and claimed it as false advertisement. Whoever came up with the idea of the Ab belt should be executed. to make things worst, you have tons of stupid fat asses outthere buying this shit and making somebody else rich.

I worked at GNC like 5 years ago and I remember all the fucktards who use to come in and ask for the "ab energizer" ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC!!!.  I wanted to tell those fat asses to go hook a set of jumper cables up to thier fat rolls and they'd be thin in no time.

Seated calf raises work the SOLEUS muscle of the calf...That is the muscle below the GASTRONEMIUS that makes your calf look like it flairs out (downward pointing triangle shape) and tapers toward the ankle.
