you said that the most important body part for a bodybuilder is the chest.  What about the back?  Haney, Yates, Coleman, Cutler, the last 4 Mr. O's all had the best backs in their respective comps.  Isn't the back the most important body part?

one of the most important body parts to win a top pro show like o is the indeed the back,, because we all have  pecs bigger than an obese chic wearing 52 d bra

but in general,,the most important part for a bodybuilder when he has no tank top or shirt on is the pecs,,

you have big thick wide full pecs,,even with average arms when it comes to genetics,, and your upper body will look 100 times better than the average brother that walks around with 18 inch of cut to bone arms and flat no where to be found chest,,

all that matters is when the shirt goes off,,when its on everyone looks ok

What do you think about those that say one should do flat bench more or incline more?  It seems like Cormier and Branch's chests are more impressive than Johnnie Jackson's who is bottom heavy.

chest like arms has a lot to do with genetics make up,,
guys  with good chest will have hard time to develop real big arms,,guys with big arms will have hard time to develop impressive chest,,

guys who have both and no problem developing both are usually on stage wearing underwear ;) and winning shows

guys who have good chest genetically will be able to grow and develop it with 2-3 45lbplates each side of the bar and look like (chest wise) they can do 5 plates  each side of the bar,,

guys who have  good arms genetically,,wil be able to develop them to 18 inches doing 40-50lb dumbells,,

to your question,,

when start training flat bench is a must,,
during the years when you develop a good base and foundation,,i would limit flat bench and do a lot more incline bench,,

incline bench is the key for swole,,thick,,full,,chest and front delts

quoted for truth...genetics rule all...if you've got shitty arms and think you can look like the guy next to you (like yours truly) by lifting heavier or bumping the dose...THINK AGAIN...

agreed w/ gh15.  If someone has an impressive chest, it makes the rest of their physique look alot better than it might really be.

How long would anyone suggest building a "base" with flat bench before switching over to incline as primary?

hmm that kinda makes sense (maybe just ironic), but, look at Branch's chest -- then his arms. Lee priests arms --- then his chest, Levrone arms -- chest (not BAD, but relatively speaking)

I usually do incline first, then flat.  I wouldnt ever stop totally using flat, but I admit I rarely do any decline work.  Depends how well your chest builds.  Some people can get a good base in a year, others takes much longer

pec deck 15 second reps then fast once burnt out 3*8-12

Haney took pec and back development to new level and beyond. Cant say the same for his arms, though. It didnt seem to affect his Sandow colection all that much.

i beleive it...... Cutler said in One step Closer that training through it is crucial due to it being a very anabolic time. Curious to see what GH has so say.

Same here, delts and arms blow up like a balloon with zero effort

Chest has taken a lot of trial and error to get it to respond.

My theory is their are "limb guys" and "torso guys". Very very few people have both

Yates' chest wasn't all that great, and we all know his arms sucked compared to other Olympia winners.
The best photo I've ever seen of Yates' chest, was the '93 pre-olympia photos that are now famous. Peter McGough stated that the entire set was shot after a chest workout, which explains his chest being so good in those photos.
