Trent Lott believed Byrd should have been President.

Was Lott wrong?

If he did say that, then yes, of course he's wrong. Can you find that quote?

Byrd is a Liberal

You mean he is a Democrat.

The important thing, as I-One is getting at, is that regardless of party affiliation, if a politician is Klan, he's a loon.

On this board they always lump people into 2 groups. Lib or neocon, you can't be anything else in the eyes of the group

if the quote has truth it doesnt matter where it came from, and one would think a general/founder of one of the most influential groups in amreekan history would be an intelligent man

"the bigger the lie the more people will believe it" adolph hitler"

"pluck the feathers from a bird and it will be glad for the warmth of your hand" (rough) stalin

:)

actually, there are 3 stances/positions/labels:

1) Global realist - we need this war as the pretext for taking mid east oil and global position.  We admit WMD was BS but don't care because the ends justify the means.  We admit we're conquerers but we care more about our own lives than strangers overseas.

2) neocon (far right repub) - WMDs were real, if you disagree with Bush you're a traitor, and we need the war to "spread democracy".  They know oil is involved by their moral compass/religious foundation won't let them admit it's stealing.

3) liberal (democrat)- We entered the war on lies for oil, and should leave.  No plan for longterm US energy needs.

I find myself a hybrid of 1 and 3..

I understand that Iraqi oil could mean a better life for my family and I, and I also don't give a shit about Iraq. But when I hear of constant suicide bombings and Iraq turning into a breeding facility for just more frustrated assholes, then I wish they'd just pullout.

Which is pretty much the stance of most Americans....unless we can show progress....or a reason for our guys to be there then we need to slowly withdraw. Hell even in Vietnam we could show progress and we could show that things were working...or not working depending on the year.

You believe killing civilians is justified?

from an army perspective, just because someone doesnt volunteer to die doesnt men their life is more valuable than someone who has

take that and run with it, see where you end up (911, carpet bombing, sanctions that kill millions etc etc)

You believe killing civilians is justified?

No.  But in a world of limited resources run by leaders who love to hoard and overspend them, it is the reality.

It's morally despicable.  But it's the reality of our world.

So if you don't support killing civilians, how can you support waging war to secure resources?

It doesn't add up?

I guess I support it because I'm a selfish hypocrite who knows I can't change it anyway.  It's wrong.  But I'll be honest, I would rather it continue, than I go to living in a shanty, riding a bike, and spend the rest of my life worrying about the chinese as they surround us and eventually invade due to "WMD".  I'm being honest here.

I would bet that deep down 95% of americans feel the same. It isn't cool to support war however so people get caught up in the hype

Do you honestly believe that you would have to live in a shanty and ride a bike, worrying about "the chinese", if USA doesn't invade Iran and doesn't continue the war in Iraq?
