Calories from supplements
« on: May 12, 2007, 09:49:28 AM »
I have to take around 3000 calories a day to keep my muscles fueled, the problem is that I usually don't have the time to sit and eat 6 meals a day (I'm in the military) so I was wondering if it's ok to take say a weight gainer for example (like the GNC brand) which contains about 1800 calories in it to help me reach my daily calorie goal? Just wondering if that would be bad, or acceptable? I wouldn't let that drink replace all my meals, I still would eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. If I don't take at least 3000 calories, pounds just shed off of me overnight, so I thought this would be a cheaper alternative to eating so much.

Imo gainers are a complete rip off considering that most of them require you to scoop 3-4 scoops, are normally whey concentrate, and typically use malto for the carbohydrate. They also normally yield around 16-22 servings for somewhere around the $40 mark. If your really skinny and have no other option gainers are cool. But usually i recommed to Just buy a good time release protein and carbs seperate. That way you can save some cash, malto is like 5lbs for 12-15$ or upgrade to waxi for a litle more. (worth every penny though). My advice to you.... take the whey by its self inbetween meals and mix the carbs/glutamine/creatine with it PWO. Malto is known to give a nice little bloat, so choosing the waxi maize is a much better choice. IDS makes one 5lbs for like $25. Havent used it yet, but im thinking of guinea piggin it to see its comparable with Pure Vitargo. Use PB&J sandwhich with bedtime shake if worried about sleeping of mass. Ive gone that route and it works well, a tip given to me by Eryk Bui.Judt my $.02

I'm not real skinny, 5'9" 182 lbs, 10% bodyfat. I've just hit that wall and I can't seem to put on real mass no matter what. If I don't eat like a monster, I kid you not, in 2 days I can see almost 5 pounds whither away. I don't have tapeworms. I just have a real fast metabolism. (I'm 23)  I do the PB&J a lot, it seems to help. Thanks for your advice, I'll try that stuff out and see if it works for me.
