How the IFBB webcasts are ruining big shows.

BB.com and their webcast will be ruining the olympia for a 2nd year in a row
First HBE...now them... (Hard Body Ent.)

Sad to see how the premier show...once a PPV specatcle, and the staple of the "biz" is now
a little 3x4 inch video on your home PC. 

First the Arnold lost PPV status...now the Olympia

Unless someone in the IFBB pulls their head out their ass, and realize the importance of MAINSTREAM media.

example: HBO boxing is big for a reason. how many people would tune in if they switched it to webcast?
there are just somethings you don't do.
I understand working your way up through webcast, and eventually getting to PPV. but to go that route Backwards...doesn't show great signs of progress.

They probably loss money airing these bodybuilding shows on PPV, not many people want to watch half naked men flex for a couple hours on end.

BB.com's webcast of the Mr Olympia weekend could be something great. Cicherillo, Shawn, Solomon...

Hopefully, there will be lots of events going on, not only the Mr Olympia, and hopefully bb.com will make news clips from all of these things.

And even put a mic and a cam on the Dynamic Duo: Avidan&Isaac.

They should try it all out at the Shawn Ray Weekend. He's got a lot of different sports going on, a multi fitness expo of sorts.

Perfect time for bb.com to test out a lot of gimmicks and ideas for the big one.

We had nothing to do with the Webcast last year, or HBE for that matter.

"A PPV spectacle"? When was that, exactly?? The Olympia PPV was never a spectacle, just a move that either broke even or lost money.

First the Arnold lost PPV status...now the Olympia 

The promoters of the Arnold didn't lose any status, they decided to PPV the UFC they were running, which made a shitload of money, and handed us the rights to webcast the  show...they were very pleased with the decision...

I'm fairly sure Wayne isn't doing too much laughing, as he has his hands full with his own business (or lack of)

I see it as a great opportunity to start to bring the world of BB, to the masses and build a greater fan base that we need. Since nothing was done over the last 20 years or so to up the level of awareness of professional BB to our own market, we at BB.com see this as the perfect time to embrace the power of the internet and for the first time in history...showcase the Olympia to a worldwide audience...FREE!

Believe me, this is no cheap venture for us...but we are willing to invest in the future of professional BB, and the media exposure it rightfully deserves. Magazines working with the internet, working with the supplement companies all for the common purpose of taking BB out of the stone age, and into your living rooms via the internet.

I see this as a huge step FORWARD...not backwards. We will build it, and they will come.

Of course it will work...we need to generate interest, plain and simple.  Without broadcasting to a larger audience than we have in the past....pro BB would continue it's present, stagnated place.

Making the shows more entertaining....PRE Olympia coverage hyping up the show, showcasing the athletes, giving a chance for the fans to pick their favorites, hate thier villians, route for the nice guy, etc, etc...One of the keys ia PRE, as in NOW....not the BFTO series that we see AFTER the show.

Were talking about a 3 month campaign to highlight the athletes and bring awareness and interest to our sport.....and all of it will be FREE and on Bodybuilding.com weekly!!

We are independant...They aren't telling us how to run our webcast. They have trust in the prescedent we've set in our production quality and the staff from CMG thats runs it.

All the Pre-coverage...I'll be doing personally...traveling around getting real time workouts and in depth interviews with as many of the Olympians as I can.

All they have to do is put up a banner in the background and you have a huge new audience wanting to buy protien from bodybuilding.com.......e asy ROI.

i got the 2002 olympia on PPV and almost fell asleep. even highlights of bodybuilding aren't particularly interesting, but watching 2 1/2 hours of it in a row is just torturous. it's not like a football game where there's tension throughout, maybe there'll be a fumble, holy crap an interception, what do you mean off-sides??, etc. you just watch them stand around flexing for however long and then at the end they tell you who won. i won't watch a full bodybuilding show for free.
