I have great doubts of skin products, skin nourishment should be taken literally, you need to eat healthy to get a healthy skin.

And the moisturising effects of lotions and cremes are nonsense, when you look at creme/lotion lists in a physician's handbook you'll find that all but the greasiest of cremes (think vaseline) are actually drying out the skin.

Not all "what you eat".  It's also what you drink, what you do not "drink", what you do not smoke, and pop.  Genetic also plays a big factor as well.  So if you are not good to your skin from within, or are but just don't have the greatest of genetics... I can understand looking for something to help inprove it or cover it up.

true, but I was referring to the 'nurishment' aspect mostly. I'll rephrase it to 'live healthy' and have good skin (or be unlucky and have crappy genes)

Secret tip from a leading NYC plastic surgeon after this third glass of wine:  It doesn't matter AT ALL what moisturizer you use on your skin, as long as you apply it directly after showering or washing your face to lock in as much natural moisture as possible...the "lighter" the texture of the cream the better apparently, especially on sensitive areas of the face.  The worst moisturizers to use apparently are blockers, like petroleum based moisturizers, which don't allow moisture either in or out and can make a dry skin prob even worse.

What you do or don't put into your body goes a long way.  I believe in the horse diet... lots of raw oats!  Muesli (the sugarless, original recipe kind) by the carloads does wonders for skin and hair.

But as anyone who lives in extreme weather countries knows, severe cold and electric heat can really dry out the epidermis big time.

I'm just repeating what a drunken plastic surgeon told me.  But apparently it isn't such a secret and is advised all over the place. The surgeon did say that using heavy, thick creams on the face drags on the skin and causes wrinkles.

I'm still not buying it, if anything the cosmetic/aesthethics industry(including plastic surgeons) have a large interest in pushing unnessecery treatments and products. There's a lot of pseudo scientific bogus around al this. 

The skin is normally in a balance, it's a bit oily thus keeping it flexible and preventing dehydration. The second we start severely 'cleansing' our skin we disrupt the balance and we have to restore it by using creames and lotions. I don't believe for one bit that our manmade concoctions are better than what our body uses as protecting film.

You are not supposed to "severely" cleanse.

  Moisturizers are also recommended to protect against pollutants and the sun.

Aye, but that's what we are doing by even using mild soaps(keeping the natural oil film intact would mean just rinsing).

We are putting the skin through a treatment it wasn't designed for.

Well sunscreen is another thing, that has it's purpose absolutely.

and it comes in shades or clear?   but you wear it to bed, so why the need for color?   I suppose if you wanted to have a flawless complexion for overnight guests?


   I placed an order for Bare Escentuals but opted not to try this.  Maybe some other time.  I haven't used the Bare Escentuals line of mineral makeup, will see how I like it compared to my current brand, http://www.lumierecosmetics.com/
