Since some of you seem to be quite knowledgable about the author, it should come as no surprise that James Van Der Beek is actually Patrick's younger brother, Sean Bateman, in the movie "Rules of Attraction." There are many similarities between the two characters, although Sean doesn't kill anyone--he's more of just a general jerk and womanizer. The movie is worth seeing for that as well as for Shannyn Sossamon (the hottest thing on the planet IMO) and for the scene with Kip Pardue where he goes on a tour of Europe getting drunk, picking up women, etc, that was all actual footage, not acted.

I know some people have rated Harsh Times pretty low, but I liked him in that movie. Its not a great movie but he pulls off the crazy, dumb ex-soldier role pretty well, and he still gives off that uneasy "what could he do next" vibe that keeps you on edge.
