Carb cycle for Bulking?
« on: June 01, 2007, 02:56:04 AM »
Sup guys. It's just hit Winter over here and I'm looking for a few tips on a Bulking diet. Keeping in mind that i don't want to add too much fat if possible. I always eat quite clean and low carbs are not a problem. A mate of mine said i should try the "low, medium, high carb cycle" like he does. I have heard of this kind of thing before but more along the lines of a cutting diet with one day of high carbs to kick start metabolism then back to low carbs for the rest of the week.

Thanks in advance as any general suggestions or tips would be great  :).

man I gained alot of lean mass carb cycling. I stayed the same weight wise but dropped down in body fat. I think I gained three lbs of total solid size in about 6 weeks doing it.  If i did the math right. Got crazy strength gains too and felt GREAT when on it. Problem is when you go low carb for awhile, when your diet requires y ou to pound them down for total cal intake, it's difficult to eat them all.  :-\

Cheers Wicked. Yeah i might just stick to High protein Mod carb till i look into it more. Like how much Protein to have on carb days and stuff like that, it's kind of confusing as a lot of people say a lot of different things  ;D.

Hell yeah buddy. Diet is all about feel and hit and miss. I would go with a diet that makes you FEEL good and still delivers what you need macronutrients and calories you need to grow. You can do the high protien/high fat/no carb shit and it'll work fine but it makes you feel "weird" after a few days without carbs and then hitting them again. Carbs help you function to a greater degree AND will keep you from eating up protien as an energy source. It doesn't have to be alot on a carb cycling cycle either. I'd keep my carbs under 50grams a day and keep my fats moderate and protien high, say double your body weight. It'll keep you from wasting away and still help you cut up! I would touch base with DK (donkey kong) on this site. His carb cycling advice helped me a great deal and alot of people GAIN strength when cutting down as well. SIZE wise though, it's tough to say since you're making your body use the fats on yourself for fuel, GAINING size might not happen and if it did it would be very slow. If you want to gain SIZE, my suggestion is to find out what you need daily calorie wise, then add 500-600 cals to that to add about 1-2 lbs GOOD lbs on you every few weeks. Eating clean foods will prevent you from putting on extra fat.

Great stuff Wicked, with the added 500-600 would you suggest the same ratio protein/carbs/fat or just protein or just carbs etc (all clean of course)? I'll have a look over DK's posts and see what else I can find out. Thanks again  :).
