The Ultimate Fighting Championship today officially announced the main fight card for its June 16, 2007 event in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Dubbed UFC 72: Victory, former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich “Ace” Franklin faces Japan’s Yushin Okami in the headline bout. Franklin is angling towards a shot at regaining the title he lost to current champion Anderson Silva, while Okami is riding a six-fight winning streak and looking to stake his own claim to a title shot.

Other featured bouts include Forrest Griffin, returning from a loss to Keith Jardine, against Hector Ramirez, who lost in his UFC debut last November. ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ veteran Rory Singer lost to Okami his last time out in the Octagon. He returns at UFC 72 to face Canadian Jason MacDonald, who lost his last time out to Franklin. Two young guns in the UFC, Clay Guida and Tyson Griffin, round out the main card.

Rumored preliminary bouts according to MMAWeekly.com, not officially announced by the UFC:

-Jake O'Brien vs. Tom Murphy
-Ed Herman vs. Scott Smith
-Marcus Davis vs. Jason Tan
-Eddie Sanchez vs. Colin Robinson
-Dustin Hazelett vs. Stevie Lynch

UFC 72: Victory marks the promotions debut in Northern Ireland and its continued expansion into the European mixed martial arts market.

But wait a second...Didn't sincitysmallguy announce that Eddie Sanchez was dead? Didn't he flame anyone who disagreed with him? I'm confused!  ::)

JOHNNIE MORTON POSITIVE FOR ANABOLIC AGENTS

Information released today by the California State Athletic Commission verified that Johnnie Morton tested positive for anabolic agents on his June 2 pre-fight drug test. Morton was part of the K-1 portion of the co-promoted Dynamite!! USA event at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. He was knocked out 38 seconds into the bout by Bernard Ackah.

Morton’s test results showed a TE ratio score of 83.9, which indicates an elevated level of Testosterone. According to CSAC Executive Director Armando Garcia, the standard for an athlete is 6. Morton’s test results for “Drugs of Abuse” or recreational drugs have not yet come back.

Following the bout with Ackah, Morton refused to take the required post-fight drug test and was immediately placed on suspension and had his fight purse withheld by Garcia. “I don’t want to hold back his pay,” said Garcia, “but I’m waiting for him to answer the letter I sent him. He received a letter giving him ten days to explain as to why he refused to take the post-fight test. He is on indefinite suspension and I withheld his pay.”

According to Garcia, he is the first fighter in the state to refuse the post-fight test. “It’s a violation of our rules and brings discredit to our commission. No one has refused except him.”

It is unclear yet as to what the result of Morton’s actions will be. The maximum amount that he can be fined in California is $2,500, but revocation of his fighter’s license is a possibility. As for any further action, Morton will first be allowed the ten days to answer Garcia’s letter and once a penalty is imposed, will also have the right to appeal any decision.

Prior to Morton’s positive test results, fighter Tim Persey, who fought on the EliteXC portion of the event televised on Showtime, tested positive for methamphetamine. He was subsequently fined $1,000, equal to 5% of his $20,000 fight purse, and suspended for six months.
