My take on the IFBB, NPC and Bob Chic, etc
« on: June 03, 2007, 08:58:19 PM »
Overall, I think that the IFBB is doing a decent job of trying to provide MORE shows in more locations  now.
As a fan I am greatful for that and enjoyed the Colorado pro.
I feel that the recent judging , in the last 2 pro shows is a step forward for our sport.
Jim Manion did a good thing with his belly ban judging edict , now a couple years old.
Bob Chic is a wonderful ambassador for bodybuilding and has a sincere desire to see the sport advance for all involved. The NPC has a contest for all ages and levels of competition. NOBODY has done it bigger or better than the IFBB and NPC.

Where I am in strong disagreement with them is in regards to drug use. This is the "800 lb gorrilla" in the room and will not go away in the current climate. I can understand how rep Bob Chic would fear that full drug testing would kill the sport. He might be right in this view and has some good reasons for feeling that "natural BB" would be worse than the current IFBB scene. The number of shows is growing after all.
Few seem to remember when the only pro show was the Olympia and the winner got 1k in cash and silver plate. Once again, I am GREATFUL the number of shows has grown and plan to support and attend some.

I do feel strongly that full scale, reasonable and fair drug testing would be wonderful. I for one, would accept and embrace smaller , less freaky but HEALTHY pros. Men and woman that were  role models of the best that the bodybuilding lifestyle can offer. In that light, I may have to make an effort to attend the Team U this year instead of a NON tested event .
