i think my expression was simpler and therefore more elegant, although the Moliere probably lost something in the translation.

She is like that strobe light flickering at night in the ocean, we see it flicker from the ship as we pass by but when we get close the flickering goes away. Then as soon as we turn the ship around and go the other way the flickering starts again and we know there is someone attached to that light.
