That 850i is a piece of crap. That car isn't worth the cost of the maintenance.

My formulator had a red 850i.  I loved that car.  He may still have it.

you can't compare a modern engine with one from the 80's.

hope this helps you 160pound bodybuilding wonder  ::)

im comparing a 850i year 1990 to a m3 from year 1994, and there is still a horsepower difference, and the 850 is even more expensive. you do your math.

the 850 is a dinosaur and a bad goodlooking dated model of bmw history,i think it hung on for 4 yrs,i very rarely see one hit the dealer i work at,now a e34,e39,m5 now were talking,e36 m3 was nice car only 230 hsp until dinan takes over.e 46 m3 330 hsp is a very nice car,u cannot go wrong in a 3 series a very good car to own,has nice styling.i drive a 335 it's a nice ride.

I myself would buy the M5 and take the extra money and get a T-Rex...The T-rex would curb the hunger for speed for sure...

BMW was NEVER about straightout horsepower. Besides you are comparing an M car engine to a luxury/crusier V12. To be fair why don't you compare the S54 motor (E46 M3) to the V12 in the Mcclaren F1, which, is a BMW motor with over 600hp, but that's not fair as well as both are completely different motors with completely different purposes.

If you want horsepower consider Mercedes AMG, or a flat out sports car like 911 turbo, viper, or vette. BMW is about  sharp handling, comfort, and overall sporty feel with emphasis on "precise steering feel."

You are not that far off. Aside from being good to look at, the 850 along with the 7 series are a piece of shit. Just look at the resale values of 7 series. You can pick up a 01 740 for around 17k. They are an electrical nightmare, believe me.

But the 850csi is awesome though, but very RARE. Basically the M version of the V12.

The M3 did not have 340hp in 1994.

Hope this helps.

the bmw 5liter v12 built in the 80swas the first v12 engine after ww2 and don't compare a v12 luxus coupe to a mainstream coupe with an sport inline 6 engine which had 321hp not 340.

Still a very beautiful car IMO though and plenty quick for anyone driving around outside of NASCAR or F1.
