Blood pressure and excessive sweating
« on: June 10, 2007, 07:48:48 PM »
I know that high blood pressure is one of the side effects of AAS.  If a person has never  had a problem with high blood pressure how high should they expect it to raise during a cycle? 30-40 points on the systolic and dystolic or more?

Also,  is it common for  someone on AAS to experience excessive sweating when working out?  By the time I am finished my workout my t-shirt is  completely drentch.  I started bringing another one with me that I change into after my workout.  I never  experienced this before starting AAS.

Hard to say on the blood pressure. Me, I've never had issues with this, and it stays pretty steady even on cycle. I think it is one of those individualistic kind of things...even so, if it goes up a lot, then you need to do something about it.

Yes, it is common to sweat more while on cycle, particularly when test is involved...no big deal.

Thanks.  I never had a problem with BP until I just checked it last  week it was 136/126.  Mine usually runs about 120/70 or lower.

I've had mildly high blood pressure for about the last nine years. Nothing too serious. I've noticed a slight increase when on but nothing to be too concerned about.

As for the sweating like Arnold said with Test it's pretty normal. I sweat heavily anyway so it doesn't matter if I'm off or on my shirt will be soaked.

That bottom number is pretty high. Mine has usually been in the 95-105 range (which got me on blood pressure meds). Did you tell your doc what you were taking?

There could be any number of reasons for it to be that high but 50 points is a pretty big jump. What did your doc think/say?

Couple of things on blood pressures (its one of my pet peeves with doctors and blood pressures----I lit into a resident last year about mine so bad about it I hope the dingleberry is still thinking about what I had to say).....

1) Blood pressure is a dynamic measurement---this means it can be normal at home, go up because you get nervous going to the doctors office, and then return to normal once you are out of the doctors office.  This variation can even occur to a degree simply by having your blood pressure measured, its high, you get nervous, and it goes up higher.  Because of this, the only way to truely measure and evaluate blood pressures is to take an average over several instances---ideally several days.   If your doctor bases a diagnosis of hypertension on a single blood pressure measurement, get a second opinion.

2)  Choosing the correct cuff size is very, very important.   In the species I work with, you can see drammatic differences in measurements by choosing a cuff that is too small or too large.  As a general rule, the width of the cuff should be 40-50% of the circumference of the limb at the point of application. Smaller will give you erroneously high readings, and bigger will be the opposite.  That same thing occurs in human patients.  Make sure the nurse or doctor who checks your pressure uses the right sized cuff---for the average 285+ lb powerlifter like myself, that means you are going to have to use a human "thigh" cuff and depending on your arm size, arm length, and arm circumfrence (ie if its >19 or 20 inches, long vs short armed) the doctors office may not even have a cuff that fits you correctly.  Human physicians generally do not understand this and they will argue and argue with you about it---even after you prove them wrong.  Thats what set me off on that resident last year....that and her telling me "cheese" was a cleaner protein source than ON Whey or Muscle Milk.    ::)

3) many of the "things" bodybuilders take can alter blood pressure.  Any sort of caffiene/ephedra/synephrine etc type "fat burning" combination taken within 4-6 hours of having your blood pressure measured can lead to falsely elevated results secondary to the effects of the drugs.   I'm notoroius for drinking a diet mountain dew as I'm driving to the doctors office.   Remember what you took before you go to the doctors office and tell them!!!

4) Hypertension is a very serious illness, that will lead to a multitude of problems over time.  Its important to monitor your blood pressure, especially depending on the supplements you are taking and if you are powerlifters like myself, as you bulk up weight classes.   Antihypertensive drugs also have a plethora of potential side effects.  Make damned sure your doctor makes an accurate diagnosis and monitors you over time if you are taking these drugs.

Ok, no more soapbox.

Rim,

I actually had my blood pressure taken at a local wal-mart machine  while on vacation this past week.  I had been sweating "a lot" during my workouts and had  not had my bp taken since I started AAS.  My bp usually runs around 120/70 or less, so I was a little concerned with the reading.  However. after reading Vets assertion of taking BP I feel a  little better as the cuff at wal-mart is made to fit  one size and it was pretty tight just trying to get my arm into the socket  where the cuff is contained.

Do you know if your primary doc is notified of the AAS if it will affect insurance coverage?

This should not affect your coverage in any way.

Freakfest,

Would the AAS possible or most likely be causing my urinary flow to  be reduced?  I have been on proscar for the past 15 years to combat hairloss, so I thought this would help.

I also discovered that proscar and deca do not mix, which puts me in a delima as I am on test, which proscar is alleged to help but also started deca.

dude, i'm not a doctor , but anything over 90 for diastolic should be a concern for you, especially in steroid users and possible enlarged left verticular , or so i've been told!

Clayton-

What are you taking if I may ask?  Some aas will make you bloat and retain water which will raise your bp.  In these cases, a diuretic will cause some relief.  Make sure your water intake is where it should be.

AAS can cause prostate enlargement.  This may cause you to have diminished flow, but then you should also note more frequent urination.  In the end, the volume of urine should not be reduced.  If it is, after making a realistic assessment of your water intake (i.e. fill a 1 gallon jug with water and carry it around all day and see if you actually finish it), some renal function studies would be in order.

True but from what I understand a diuretic is mainly used for the "top" number in the BP. & his "bottom" number is the seriously high one. I'd like to see Vet or Freak chime in here.

I think top # is under pressure, bottom relaxed.
THe bottom one is where you lose the sound in the earpiece.
TRy it, it's not hard to get a feel for reading it.
Vet's right about high PB @ the Dr office. Mine ramps there unless I have a real chill nurse.

I started March 19 with sust 300mg (600 weekly) and bold 400 (400 weekly) but did not see any positive results and thought that the gear was beat.  I stopped the sust and bold on May 5th and started t-400 (800mg week) and test-prop (100mg eod) On may 21 I added 300mg of deca per week.

I think the prop is working but not sure about the t-400 as I purchased it from the same guy who sold me the sust and bold.  I just switched over yesterday to 750 mg of test-eth and dropped the t-400.

I was wondering if I should keep using the test-prop or is it overkill.  Also, when I received my new order of test eth and deca I was suppose to receive some 5mg naps but the order has been delayed.  When they arrive I wanted to add 30mg of naps per day for 6 weeks.

I will make an appointment with my doctor for a full physical.
