Can he be considered one of the all-time greats with calves that don't flex?

I think this is when he turned pro - maybe his best stage showing not the 93 Arnold.

IMO, the synthol calves disqualify him from being one of the bests ever

Calves were ok in the 90's, he admitted to using Escilene for his delts, so it would be speculative he did that for his calves. If you check his 1993 Arnold pics, you will see split calves. He even joked on his "Hardbody" vid (preparing for the 1993 O) about calf implants. Shawn Ray admitted that he made up the calf implant story to get Flex off his game...

IMO, obviously syntholed bodyparts do leave an asterisk on a guy's career. I can't think about nasser's olympia near-greatness without seeing that pic of him with the giant funny synthol arms. And while Flex was one of the best of all time, his silly shoulders in that one pic stand out in my mind.

You don't have that kinda asterisk with Arnold, Sergio, Haney or Dorian.

I see your pt in theory, but since we have no way of knowing all the other banned sustances in the pros bodies, what difference does it make. Think about it. The reason they have banned drugs and substaces is so the actual physique can be obtained via legit means. With no enforcement of the actual rules , it is like having swimmers wearing fins. Sure, they would swim faster but it would look absurd and be ridiculed overall.
The extremee drug use is just as bad as synthol , implants, etc

i disagree here howard.

everyone does drugs and they all have about the same effects. shooting a pound of oil into your arms before you take the stage and looking unlike everyone else, that is worse.

If I remember correctly...I thought it was you that wanted the IFBB to check Flex's calves for some fishy oils in them?

Maybe I'm wrong...but hell, I can remember reading it in a few magazines & you & Flex were not buds anymore cuz of it.
