Bill Clinton: Al Gore Will Enter Race
 
Hillary Clinton may be the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008, but her husband Bill thinks she’ll likely face stiff competition from a yet unannounced source – Al Gore.

Bill was at a get-together at the apartment of Air America’s new chief Mark Green when political blogger Andy Ostroy asked the former president if he believes Gore is going to run, according to the New York Post’s Page Six column.

"Someone’s got to fizzle,” Clinton answered. "If someone fizzles, then yeah, he could enter the race. He’s got plenty of money, his own money, to do it.”

Ostroy predicts that it will be Barack Obama who fizzles by September, and "Gore will toss his hat into the ring and enlist the junior senator from Illinois as his running mate. An unbeatable ticket.”

It's fairly obvious to me Gore is a loser.  He has to be one of the only nominees in American history to lose his home state.  If he wins his home state he wins the presidency.  Losers snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. 

And say what you want about Bush, but the man has been overachieving his entire life.  Major difference between him and Gore.

I grew up in Texas and for most of his life "W" was considered the idiot son who made Neal Bush look good.

He ran a super sleazy campaign to become governor and his primary accomplishment as govenor was the number of executions that took place during his administration

I'm a lukewarm fan of Gore but when the man speaks I start to fall asleep.  

I saw him on Olberman a week or so ago and he answers questions in such a round about way that he'll lose the average American with a 10 second attention span.  I had to try hard to keep myself from nodding off.

On the other hand I think he would be a good president, if only in contrast to the slow motion nightmare that we've had the last 6 years..

I think Biden also is very qualified and I wish he would get more play.

That recount horse is dead.  If Gore wins his home state, he wins the presidency, regardless of what happens in Florida.  I disagreed with the U.S. Supreme Court's decision and thought the Florida Supreme Court got it right, but that doesn't change the fact that Gore couldn't carry his home state.  Pretty unbelievable.    

I thought Gore was clearly smarter than Bush, but one of the things that pushed me over the edge was I believed Bush was smart enough to see his own shortcomings and would surround himself with smart people.  I thought Clinton was too smart for his own good and made horrible appointments (Les Aspen, Jocelyn Elders, etc.).  I figured Gore would have the same problem.

The president has the bully pulpit and one of his primary jobs is to make us all feel good.  Kennedy did this.  Reagan was a master.  Clinton was excellent.  Dubya is a terrible public speaker, but his tough guy persona is great in times of crisis.  

This is one of the problems with Hillary.  She is stiff as a board.  Has no sense of humor.  Gore is the same way.

Haven't you met anyone who was too smart for their own good?  People who are very bright, but too arrogant to accept advice and/or criticism?  A leader is only as good as those who advise him/her, particularly mayors, governors, and presidents.  When your advisors stink you wind up with the unnecessary loss of life in Somalia (compliments of Les Aspen) and a mismanaged war in Iraq (compliments of Rumsfeld).  At the end of the day, the president has to accept responsibility, but it's crucial for the president to surround himself with good people . . . and to actually listen to them.

I don't think arrogance is a bad thing in a president if it is not debilitating re his judgment.  Bush is debilitated.  Clinton knew when to cut a deal (triangulate).

We've already seen the results of an intelligent pres. v. a dull normal president.

Clinton's years were very successful in terms of the economy and implementing conservative agenda.

Bush's years are marked by economic failure (tripling the debt), trampling the constitution and the single worst foreign policy decision in modern american history.

When the body count gets to around 60 grand we can call it the worst. I think the other might be the Democrate led war in Vietnam, perhaps even pulling support of the Shah by the other worst president in history, is or was just as bad. Maybe pulling out of Somalia, leading Bin Laden to believing we would not fight, therefore emboldening attacks against US interests and 911 itslef. It all stacks upon itslef and eventually Bush came along and it fell on his head. The next guy will repair it.
