Albert  is proof that Ronnie Coleman can come back and win. People are saying Ronnie is over the hill, etc. But Albert looks better than most pros today when he was competing back in his 40's and 50's.

Albert's bicep peaks are freaky as hell.

true, i believe ronnie definitely has it in him. i actually think that the only thing that can hurt ronnie is himself, not father time (been and gone). like yates, he is a brutally heavy trainer and like yates he has already paid the price for that. he knows that to progress he has to push it to that fine line between continued improvement and injury.

people say that he should back off, train lighter/refine/maintain, but if he doesn't equal or surpass what he did in, say 2002, why on earth would his body retain that muscle and quality. fans and the judges expect him to come in with the same freaky muscle quality or more every time he appears at the olympia and if he eases off so will his body. the thing is, his body may be better than the comp but he'll get marked down simply for being less than his best. it's human nature.

The picture at the beginning of this thread was from the 1987 Mr. Olympia contest where Albert came seventh beating quite a few much younger men:

http://www.musclememory.com/show.php?c=Olympia+-+IFBB&y=1987

I don't agree with that placing but I think he was top 10 material.  He was 49 at the time of that contest.  For more pictures check out the gallery below:

http://www.bodybuildingpro.com/mrolympia1987

IMO, Gaspari deserved to win that contest as he made Lee Haney look like a pile of dough.

Albert competed until 1991 when he was 53 and beat Milos Sarcev and Sonny Schmidt at the Niagara Falls Pro:

http://www.musclememory.com/show.php?c=Niagara+Falls+Pro+Invitational+-+IFBB&y=1991

Some people may be jealous of Albert but I would say most are just looking to get the facts.  Albert's birth certificate apparently said 1938 but with the top half of the 8 erased.  It's possible even Albert himself didn't know his real age.

Check the picture gallery here and see that Albert did sport a gut too:

He really needs to teach Ronnie and some of the other guys about how to control it.  On stage you would never know Albert had such distention.

imo gaspari was the most shredded bber to grace the stage up until that point in time. even more so than munzer at that point.

however, he just didn't have the structure, symmetry and upper body size and thickness of lee haney. it was a genetic thing. the taper and other aesthetic qualities gaspari was NEVER going to attain no matter what he did. it sucks but that's the cards he was dealt.

his prep, discilpine and single minded determination was second to none. if it was about condition and muscularity, gaspari by a landslide.

Good assessment.  Some bodybuilding contests are judged like that though, so a win by Gaspari could have been justified.

NO, I have the Muscle and Fitness issue covering the 1987 Mr. Olympia and it CLEARLY states that Lee Haney is 27 and Beckles is 57. He was born in 1930.

Furthermore, Bertil Fox was said to have been down to 215 pounds for the contest and that he was HALF the size he normally was, because the pressure's of the judges telling him he had to cut down. In the process he lost MOST of his muscle. The man should have been 260 onstage and would have dwarfed EVERYONE with his 22" pythons, rather than his emciated version he brought to the table after 1982.

From Health & Strength September 2, 1965 Al's age is given as 27, hence born 1938.

As I mentioned, the storyline changed later, after several assertions referring to the 1938 date were well established and fit into the chronology of events.

The 88 olympia background had cylindrical shapes and purple and blues as the backdrop.
