isometrics - maye 2-3 inches?
I think even that would be a stretch. Now that I think of it, for close grip the worst part of the exercise is the top part where the lock out occurs. With a build like his, if he unlocked his arms, well, he would get a rude awakening. There is no way he could unlock his arms for even an inch of work with that kind of weight.
