"I WON'T DRINK DIET SODA!"

So I work at a casino and I was listening to a few of my co-workers having a conversation about how they REFUSE to drink diet soda because it causes cancer. These same people are fat and they smoke numerous packs of cigarettes per day. What the fuck are they thinking?? Anyone else work with dumbfucks like this?

I live in Iowa Special Ed so it's not a nationally known casino. It's the only "big" thing around where I live and it mostly brings in old people, truckers and the biggest piles of "white trash" you could imagine. Every single job there is either easy or super easy. Nobody really does anything. It's quite boring to tell you the truth.

artificial sweeteners are nasty shit...so what if they arent perfect when it comes to what they consume..at least they are smart enough to not drink that shit.

Everything I drink is artificially sweetened.  I only drink water at work and at the gym (water fountains).

Seriously bro, never have. I think one time years ago when I was partying and ran out of diet Sprite for my vodka  ;D I might have used Coke or Pepsi, but I don't remember for sure. I have never in my life bought a Coke or Pepsi. I couldn't tell you the difference between them and whether they were diet or regular. Once maybe every couple of years I might get a diet Dr Pepper at a gas station and drink about half of it. I was never a big fan or Soda. YUCK!

I agree.  I just don't get it. Humans have existed on this planet for ~150,000 years, and soda has been around for only 100 or so of those years, yet idiots today act like it's some sort of essential nutrient. Like when you're getting a meal and someone asks you "what kind of soft drink do you want with that?", as though it's a given you will be drinking something sweet and carbonated.   ::)

There have been no long-term studies because no one is willing to fund them, and even if there were, some of this stuff hasn't been around long enough to conduct any.

How about employing common sense:  why put substances into your body that do not exist in nature, have no know benefit to the body, in some cases are closely related to or made from substances that are known to cause harm, and in some cases have at least some short-term studies showing they themselves may cause harm?
