Arnie meets Tony Blair in London on last day in office
« on: June 28, 2007, 03:42:05 AM »
Man is Arnie working this governorship to the max. networking with the big guys..also met with the French president and last month the Canadian Prime Minister in Ottawa. In self-promotion & marketing you've got to have a schtik, his is the environment.

Blair, Schwarzenegger hold talks in London on environment
Governor says Britain is a model for building an environmentally sensitive economy.

LONDON -- Prime Minister Tony Blair and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger met Tuesday to discuss the trans-Atlantic battle against global warming.

The pair held breakfast talks at 10 Downing St. in Blair's final meeting with a foreign official before he steps down as Britain's prime minister on Wednesday.

Schwarzenegger, a conservative who has put major emphasis on the fight against climate change, praised Blair's "great leadership" on the environment.

He said that during a decade in power, the British leader has "proven to the world that you can do both, you can protect the Earth and protect the economy."

Last year, Schwarzenegger signed legislation that imposed the first statewide cap on greenhouse gases. The move put California at odds with the Bush administration, which has resisted global agreements to limit emissions.

Blair said a declaration on climate change agreed by the G-8 group of industrialized nations earlier this month was a major step forward.

"For the first time at the G-8 a few weeks ago we have an agreement on the basic principles for a new global deal on climate change," Blair told reporters.

The agreement calls for a "substantial cut" in the greenhouse gas emissions blamed for global warming, although it does not commit nations to an exact figure.

On Monday, Schwarzenegger held talks in Paris with new French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Schwarzenegger said after the talks that he admired Sarkozy "tremendously," and believed he would "put a new energy in the relationship between France and other countries, and our state."

Nyet, nada; no one's been trying. Also can't be VP, but could be in a cabinet.

Schwarzenegger Visits Native Austria

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to his Austrian hometown Sunday for the first time since severing official ties with the city two years ago after a flap over the death penalty.

The actor-turned-governor was welcomed at the airport in the southern city of Graz by friends and current and former local politicians, including Alfred Gerstl, a former leader of the upper house of parliament often described as his mentor, the Austria Press Agency reported.

APA reported that Schwarzenegger would attend Gerstl's 84th birthday celebration Sunday evening. He will also visit Britain and France as part of his short European tour.

Schwarzenegger, accompanied by his daughter Katherine and one of her friends, did not take questions from journalists and disappeared into a limousine after his welcome.

The spat between Schwarzenegger and the city began in 2005, when Graz authorities stripped the governor's name from the city's soccer stadium after he refused to block the execution of a convicted California gang founder.

Schwarzenegger returned Graz's highest award, its ring of honor, which was given to him by city officials in 1999. In a letter to the city two years ago, Schwarzenegger said the ring had "lost its meaning and value to me."

Graz officials also removed all references to Schwarzenegger on the city's Web site.

Schwarzenegger was born in 1947 in the village of Thal, just outside Graz, where he began his bodybuilding career. He emigrated to the United States in 1968 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1984, but has retained his Austrian citizenship.

No different. Which I hope it stays that way. I love Arnold as much as the next person, but that position needs to stay for those born in America.

Arnold is a great inspiration, really went after all his dreams.  Amazing.

Pollux, I have a question for you, why does that position have to only be available for those born in the US.  Those born in the US - their great great grandparents were born elsewhere?

Is a US Citizen who just got his citizenship yesterday less American than a US citizen whose great great grandparents got their citizenship years and years ago?  Does that make him less of a US citizen? or Less American?

The idea's that one's ultimate allegiance will be to the original country of birth.

Arnie in a future cabinet's enough; there's no real evidence in California that he's actually been more effective in terms of helping the state vs. his own very effective self-promotion; more important than changing the constitution is getting better people from the private sector in government. As President, Bloomberg would probably be as effective as Arnie or more, and might invite Arnie to the party as well.

I actually accept that as a very legitmate answer - I never thought about that part.

Ask our Four Fathers.  ::)

Look...I'm just going by The Constitution. Sure, Amendments are added all the time. But this is one I don't think should be touched because of one man - Arnold.

Arnold's head looks less and less real. He's starting to look like the ultra-fake Terminator head they used in the first movie. (And his head looks huge on his body, which makes his bodybuilding physique even more amazing)
