That's it? If you're Greek, Italian, or Jewish (where I live, anyway), wedding START at that. I think it's ridiculous, though.

We're spending only about $20,000-$25,000 on our wedding, but we can't imagine what else we would want... for us, that's enough.

BTW $2,000 for a ring is not being a cheapskate. The wedding industry and the diamond industry have been waging a noisy propaganda campaign for many years, trying to convince people to overspend on engagement rings. I spent somewhere around $2,500, and the ring is still nicer than any of her friends' rings.

yeah, people spending 50k+.... wow. crazy. For mine... the ring was around 2k, and the whole wedding/honeymoon was under 10k, without a doubt. As a result, we were able to pay off both cars, have a baby, and move into a much larger home inside our first 2 years of marriage without any debt.

When I looked at rings, the 20k ones were beautiful, i mean just plain gorgeous. But as I did the math in my head of how many months it would take to pay for one, I just couldn't go near them.

Yep. For po' folks like me, a 20k ring is sweet, but paying the rent and having a decent quality of life is sweeter.
