It kind of looks like he is trying to lower it closer to his chin/neck area rather than the upper pecs. I rember he mentioned it in one of his MD columns that he uses that technique for his flat benches.
He is one strong dude alright. I trained with him about 6 weeks ago. he did 15 reps with 155 pound dumbells on flat press. Yes he also had us lower the bar down to our neck instead of the chest area on the presses.
