watch any mr. olympia post 93 and you'll see why yates won - he was bigger than the guys on his level of condition and in better shape that those bigger or as big as him.

one small bodypart ( his bicep) will not overcome all that much.

samething with ronnie.

if he was in shape this year, he would have won - even with the tricep.

the back is a different story.
I respectfully disagree. Bodybuilding is about symmetry as much as size. Anything noticeable missing from one side of the body (Yate's bicep, Ronnie's tricep, Lockett's leg, Tre Treligman's chest muscle) should be penalized and IMHO, a smaller, more symmetrical bodybuilder should win.

What about Coleman's SHIT oil filled calves? Those are visible in EVERY mandatory pose. What about Coleman's silver dollar tit? Dorian deserved and earned everything that came his way. At least Dorian never got booed off the stage like Coleman did in 02  :-\

That's racism. Nothing more, nothing less. Dillett was booed when he beat Ruhl. Coleman booed when he beat Cutler. Obama booed when he beats Clinton. Doh!

LOL Pubic and Icehole (and post tear dorian) are getting owned by Getbig, as usual..

and hey Pubes, I noticed you still insist that ronnie's calves are "oil filled" ::), despite you being shown to be wrong and making up shit countless times.. ::)

see the truce thread for the thorough debunking of Pubic's groundless comments about Ronnie's calves.. :-\

About the dumbest thing I've ever read. Front double biceps, rear double biceps, most muscular, side chest/biceps.

You're almost right about one thing. The show was over BEFORE he stepped on stage.

you are finding out that Pubic lives in a fantasy world that no one else knows about.. :-\

The real joke is that any self-respecting bodybuilder who tore a major muscle just weeks prior to a show would drop out of the show because they would know that it wouldn't be good for their legacy to go from Mr. O to 13th place...unless they were assured that they would win regardless of how shittty they looked.

Dorian had an amazing physique, but no one missing a bicep can win the Mr. O. Everyone makes a big deal about Ronnie's tricep, but compared to Dorian's bicep, it's nothing. I don't know how Shawn or Kevin or Flex or anyone else who took 2nd to Dorian during the 'one-arm' years ever put up with that travesty.

Perhaps Shawn, in retrospect, can speak on this.

excellent post.

the thing is, it was more than just the biceps that year.

the rest of him looked like garbage too..

Pubes looks at ronnie's soft delt and says it must be synthol.

well, lets see what he says about the EXACT SAME THING in dorian:

 ::)

Pubes is being caught in his stupidity...

when you make up shit that has no basis in reality, it is bound to bite you in the ass sooner or later.

i confess, you're point on the taper is not only interesting but very valid (something i never thought so much about before cos i am normally so focused on the abs).

i dont know, its just ronnie looked wierd that year.

i gotta say though, after reading ur analysis i did realise that jay is blocky, before i thought it was just the haters, but on certain shots the 'fridge' element is evident.

All of this about Coleman's huge advantage in taper and jay's blockiness has been mentioned in the truce thread.

In that show it was close because jay was way ahead in conditioning with coleman off, while coleman always had innate advantages in taper, aesthetics, shape and volume. Therefore it was close even given jay's conditioning.

Menzter only had conditioning, he had no chest, good arms and average everything else. He was not Mr. O material.

Agreed that Mentzer was often over-rated and didn't deserve to win that year. Actually his conditioning and refinement wasn't as good as Schwarzenegger's or Zane's, and he was always weak in chest and arm definition to go with slightly soft midsection and quads.

Exactly, Arnold wasn't 100% by far but he still looked good and out muscled practically everyone. Had Haney been around then he would not have won but against that competition I can't say he didn't look good enough to win but it was very close.

Get your head out of your ass. It wasn't even close. Coleman was deemed inferior in muscularity AND symmetry yet still won  :-\ .....wonder what Uncle Joe made him do backstage  :-*

Ronnie is owned here, flat out. Cutler superior in all aspects as verified by the judges when they deemed him superior in muscularity and symmetry.

This picture is deceiving. Everyone knows that Coleman has the best crab shot ever. As I've stated on the truce thread, I think that Coleman should ahve won the 2006 Olympia exclusively due to his most muscular - it is that good! His combination of mass, definition, striations and round muscle bellies make for a cartoon-like crab shot. The problem is that, with the exception of his most muscular and his great quads, Ronnie 2006 had nothing going on for him when compared to Jay. His midsection was distended and poorly definied. He lost size and hardness to his back and his conditioning was less than best.

I wonder what would have happened if Lou Ferrigno made a comeback the same year Arnold did? Who would have won?

The deck was stacked.

Jesus himself could have chosen 1980 as a comeback, and the judges would have given the trophy to arnold.
