I was in 5th grade sitting in Math class when I heard shots fired, I was one of the 500 or so students.

arm the teachers.  test, train, license em.

next time a Va Tech shooter gets frisky, he'll have ten well trained heroes on the scene to gun him down within 10 seconds of starting his fussiness.

Your such a gangster.

It's a position that many support.

You hold the teachers accountable - if they drop/lose/misuse that weapon, they see prison.  You require background checks, training, licensing, and above all, absolute concealment.  If and when you have a situation where a student, local madman, or terrorist decides to start some ruckus at a school, you have any number of teachers (who know the lay of the school and who belongs way better than any cop who will show up 90 minutes later) showing up quickly.

It's a reasonable solution.  Wouldn't have to be a huge deal either.

no I didn't know what was going on.  The cops got the guy after he killed the janitor and wounded the assistant principle.  It didn't take long then we got led out.

We (the kids) were all excited that we got to go home early.

I remember the janitor that got killed (Pete Christopher)  helped me get my jammed locker open weeks earlier.  He was a well liked guy.
