No vacs before 8 weeks.   Useless and potentially harmful.

"Not only are annual boosters for parvo and distemper unnecessary, they subject the pet to potential risks of allergic reactions and immune-mediated hemolytic anemia. There is no scientific documentation to back up label claims for annual administration of MLV vaccines. Puppies receive antibodies through their mothers milk. This natural protection can last 8-14 weeks. Puppies and kittens should NOT be vaccinated at LESS than 8 weeks. Maternal immunity will neutralize the vaccine and little protection (0-38%) will be produced. Vaccination at 6 weeks will, however, delay the timing of the first highly effective vaccine. Vaccinations given 2 weeks apart suppress rather than stimulate the immune system. A series of vaccinations is given starting at 8 weeks and given 3-4 weeks apart up to 16 weeks of age. Another vaccination given sometime after 6 months of age (usually at 1 year 4 months) will provide lifetime immunity."

Maternal antibodies will override the vaccine and actually the immune system will be compromised possibly making them more susceptible.   And like I highlighted, delay the timing of the first effective vaccination.

I am not being callous when I say this, but to succumb to parvo at 4 weeks of age when they should of had maternal antibodies, to me shows inherited chronic immune problems in the litter from the bitch, and I would not aggravate further damage by vaccinating at that early of an age.  IMO, that is way to young to start compromising their immune systems.   But my way of thinking is to build up and not tear down the body, and even the allopathic and pro-vaccine camps would say 4 weeks is too early, so I do not feel like my statement was out of line.

  Good Luck with the pups.

Next time I talk to my dad.....I have to ask him about a litter we had.

This was back in the late 70's & I remember the pups we had a few passed away shortly after they were in the new homes.
