Cormier speaks:
I think I had a lackadaisical approach to a lot of things - normal things - that other didn't find normal. I've been bouncing in clubs since I was 18. I have phased that out, in the past year or so. Fri night, you'll see me in the gym. I got a tight schedule. I don't compromise that for hanging out. I keep my focus on going at it every day.
We used to train hard, but the persona for a Cali bodybuilder... me, Flex wheeler, Rico, we went to the gym twice a day, then held the flag for west coast bodybuilding.
I had it down pretty good, I was pretty hardcore on everything I did. You tend to not pay close attention to every little detail. Easy to cut details when you are still victorious when you cut corners, and you STILL finish in the top 3. Hard to tell someone "you oughta do this different" when you're already winning.
I have talked to Kris Dim also. Yeah. Lot of lonely days in the hospital. It's put a lot of things in perspective for me, changed my life.
His new game plan:
I immedialtey started training with Charles (Glass?) People don't realize what all I went through, trying to build a body back. My legs, ankles, I couldn' tlook at myself in the mirror. I didn't start til march. I've been on it ever since. I went to Australia, started training out there with Paul Graham, 70 years old. I was out there for 2 months. Came back to venice, I saw some shots of Robby (Robinson), he looked incredible. So I got his phone number - he was just gonna come and encourage me and work on my posing - and he just threw a lot of gasoline on my fire. he said "attitude changes now - nothing else matters now, work hard for the Olympia". No more looking around. It ain't no joke.
*Note, you hear music playing in background of Cormier's cell phone. Sounds like A.I.*
I like the challenge. It's all I think about every second of the day, for months. Being that I had a few bumps and bruises, my workouts, I thought I'd push back to the Montreal. But, being that I can qualify. I'm not disrespecting any of my competitors. I don't think no one's going to stop me.
I got a lot of strength, a lot of genetics. At this age, I'm old enough to handle what I"m doing with the respect and discipline that it takes, but young enough to still bring a hell of a package. The people trying to sleep on what I"m doing... they don't know Bbing. Anyone who knows Bbing knows I have a lot of heart and discipline and desire. When that comes together - with the right team behind me - I'm just like clockwork every day. I'm 30 minutes early every day. My mom used to say "you and time never mixed, chris." No one is going to compromise what I'm doing.
I'm bringing a new package. As focused as I am, I can bring a differnet package, look better, than I did last year. Might be one of my best packages ever, physique-wise. A lot of guys peak at 39 or 40. Bob Chic did. Ronnie Coleman looked his best at 40. Toney Freeman. I'm right there. It's for the taking. Every inch of my body is fully concentrated for the Olympia.
I'll be very refined, very conditioned. No one can take their eyes off me. That's what I intend to look like.
