You rub the cats belly....

& have no idea if he's got a package?
It's a kitten at about 4-6 weeks old.  Lots of fur.  It's hard to tell with male kittens...as they don't have an "external" penis like dogs.

To attempt to identify the sex of your new kitten, first stand "it" on a table, in a good light and lift up the tail.

In the male the uro-genital opening is a small circular dot below and slightly separated from the anus, rather like a colon (:). it may also be possible to see the slight swelling of the testicles, just below the anus.

In the female the opening (vulva) is in the same situation, below but closer to the anus and is more elongated vertically.

When looking at a male and female kitten together the differences are fairly obvious but considering one on its own can be puzzling, especially when they are young.

No, I've seen one calico male.... and i've kicked myself for 10 years for not taking a picture of it.  It was part of a litter of FELV positive really sickly kittens at the humane society.  We euthanized it and then realized it was a calico male.....

The calico colors are X linked traits.  To get the tri-color, the cat has to have two x chromosomes.  Since males only have 1 X chromosome, they cannot be calico....unless they have an extra X chromosome.

The testicles don't fall at that age, like dogs...humans even.   ;)

When Mike gets done lifting up the tail and doing his inspection we should know what Fonzie is.    ;D

His head is the size of a walnut.  He looks a lot bigger in the pictures than he really is.

Funny ferret story that I heard years ago:

A person posted about how much their ferret enjoyed it when they would turn it over and tickle it's "belly button".

It was a male ferret.      ;D

They were really really embarrassed, but I have heard that has been done by more than a few unknowing people.

They must have been 2-3 weeks old then.  Snowball is about 6 inches long from top of his head to ass.  Was also, I'm sure, still nursing.  He is very tiny.  I have had many cats through-out my life and some even had kittens.  It's not an easy task to distinguish their sex when so young.  Now, if you can determine at such a young age whether a kitten is male or female...right off the bat... you should have become a vet.  Because at this age...they pretty much look the same.

Last night on my way home I saw this little kitten sitting in the middle of a busy street (it was all of maybe 5-6 weeks old).  I pulled my car by it, opened the door, jumped out and grabbed it.

someone saved.......someone saved........someone saved my life tonight.........
