Wow they have some balls to come out and tell us how to act on the same day a co-defendent pleads guilty.

After this is all over they should make a public apology coming from the likes of from Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, NAACP, Jay-Z, DMX, Allen Iverson and other various thugs...

You idiots.  They've said the same thing Nike has said.  If he's guilty, then he should be punished but until be is found guilty, everyone should exercise restraint.  Nike has only suspended his contract not terminated until the case is over and Reebok didn't even have a contract with him.

AND WE WONDER WHY CONGRESS IS SO DUMB!!!!!

Each member of congress controls the spending of milions, or billions, of dollars.

They also have decision making power over many of the aspects of our life.

They have more power than we do.  They might not be so dumb.

Yeah a few did once reports about how it was a "black thing" got out in the media and they showed Jay-z and DMX (who has been arrested for cruelty to animals before) used dog fights in their videos and have in their past participated in them as well.

The sheriff and DA in that town called on the NAACP once the feds became involved but the media would not report that since that was not the issue but the black community wanted to pull the race card.

ya know...

this might not be about Vick.  This might be about the NAACP.

The fewer times an organization is mentioned, the more irrelevant it becomes.
Conversely, the more times an organization is mentioned, the more relevant it becomes.

Michael Vick is the most talked about sports news story of the last 3 years (we miss ya Kobe!)
He's a highly searched term, he's talked about nonstop on every network from ESPN to Telemundo.

The NAACP just put their name into every one of these outlets.  The term "NAACP" will appear ten million times on computer screens today than it would have.  They are relevant, whether right or wrong.

And, when they have a real issue to defend next year, or its time to contract donors/advertising/whatever, their name will be more recognized as a result.

Very good point.  I think that has got to be the main incentive for them to back Vick.

thanks.  Plus their position of "Let's wait and see" is a relatively safe one.  They don't have to defend the guy or commit to him - they're committing to the justice system instead.

Vick is the bad guy here.  Probably the most hated guy in the country right now who isn't starting elective wars.  NAACP isn't taking a huge risk here defending justice.

It may make them more "relevant", but it harms what they claim their core mission is.  Everytime the NAACP (or Jesse or Shaprton or whoever) tries to bring race BS into an issue that clearly has nothing to do with race, it just makes people hate black people more.

You know why no one hates Irish or Italians or Polacks anymore?  It's because back in the day instead of bitching and whining all the time like the blacks do, they ignored the BS, worked hard, and joined mainstream society.  The Blacks, despite being here longer than any other minority group, still can't figure that out.   ::)

Some pundits believe that the cultural divide (black vs white vs brown) is intentionally cultivated in order to keep the masses focused on bitching about their neighbors so they don't have the brainpower, time, or motivation to bitch about the groups who are really screwing them.

IE: Average uneducated white southerner who uses the n-word daily and knows ten thousand reasons he hates black people, but is completely unaware his social security retirement money is being spent by smart white people.

I'm sure that's just crazy talk tho.

the NAACP needs to stay the hell out of this right now. They have bigger thing that should have on their plate. It used to stand for National Assoc. for the Advancement of Colored People, I see no advancement here. Typical 1960's era thinking.

Haha, every one of those guys aside from Emmit is a degenerate. Lets look at the facts. Jay z admitted to selling crack for years. Songs about gun totting and big pimpin. Basically promoting the decline of his own people. DMX is a legit crack addict. Several run in's with the law. Drugs, guns, jail you name it. Micheal Irvin is basically a functional crack addict, lol. Racist and delusional. Iverson is a thug who has been in trouble many times. Look at the type of people who are supporting Vick. Wonder why ::)

This is the second post I've seen like this today and I'm curious to know why so many board members failed to take 6th grade American History?

All of the groups you mentioned are essentially white and once the language barrier is completely wiped out in the second generation  there really is no issue.

But the more important point is that all of these groups have a very different history in this country than Blacks.

These groups poured into the country in the mid-19th century.  The Irish and Italians flooded the country and took over the political system with machines like Tamany Hall while blacks were still shaking off slave shackles and lacked the right to vote. With their control of the political machine, the Irish/italians had a strangle hold over labor unions which is the main reason behind the rise of these groups during the late 1800s/early1900s. Meanwhile, blacks would be dealing with remnants of Jim Crow for another hundred years.

So in terms of time, the groups you  listed actually have the edge.

But I guess I'm just playing the race card, right? ::)

RICHMOND, Va. (July 30, 2007) -- One of Michael Vick's co-defendants pleaded guilty Monday to his role in a dogfighting conspiracy he says was financed almost entirely by the Atlanta Falcons quarterback.

As part of a plea agreement, Tony Taylor pledged to fully cooperate with the government in its prosecution of Vick and two other men accused of running an interstate dogfighting enterprise known as "Bad Newz Kennels" on Vick's property in rural Surry County.

"The 'Bad Newz Kennels' operation and gambling monies were almost exclusively funded by Vick," a summary of facts supporting the plea agreement and signed by Taylor states.

The plea deal requires Taylor to testify against Vick and his two remaining co-defendants if called upon to do so. Taylor cannot get a stiffer sentence or face any new charges based on any new information he provides, according to terms of the agreement.

Additional charges are possible, however, against Vick and the other two. Federal prosecutors have said a superseding indictment will be issued in August.

Vick's lead attorney, Billy Martin, did not immediately return a phone message.

Taylor, 34, of Hampton, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities, and conspiring to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture.

Vick pleaded not guilty to the same charges last week and said in a written statement that he looked forward to "clearing my good name." He also pleaded with the public to resist a rush to judgment.

The gruesome details outlined in the July 17 indictment have fueled public protests against Vick and prompted the suspension of some of his lucrative endorsement deals. Also, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has barred Vick from the Falcons' training camp.

The summary of facts signed by Taylor supports the indictment's claims that the dogfighting ring executed underperforming dogs by drowning, hanging and other brutal means. Taylor admitted shooting one dog and electrocuting another when they did not perform well in test fights in the summer of 2002.

Vick, 27, attended several dogfights in Virginia and other states with his partners, according to the statement. Prosecutors claim the fights offered purses as high as $26,000.

Taylor, who will be sentenced Dec. 14, said he was not promised any specific sentence in return for his cooperation with the government.

He faces a maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000, although federal sentencing guidelines likely will call for less. The range will be determined by the court's probation office, but the judge can depart from that range if he finds aggravating or mitigating circumstances.

Taylor and his attorney, Stephen A. Hudgins of Newport News, declined to answer reporters' questions as they left the federal courthouse. Prosecutors also would not comment.

During the hearing, Taylor spoke only in response to routine yes-or-no questions from U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson. He answered "Yes" when the judge asked if he had agreed to cooperate with the government.

Taylor acknowledged in the summary of facts that he found the property that Vick purchased in 2001 for $30,000 for development into a dogfighting compound. Taylor says he maintained and trained the dogs for about three years, using his share of winnings -- which were split among the partners -- for living expenses.

He left the operation after a falling out with co-defendant Quanis L. Phillips and others in September 2004, according to the statement of facts.

Vick and Purnell A. Peace, 35, of Virginia Beach, and Phillips, 28, of Atlanta, are scheduled for trial Nov. 26. They remain free without bond.

The whole idea of NAACP is to protect the constitutional rights.

Theories of why it would be a "good" move for them to defend Vicks, seems more like conspiracy theoretism IMO.
