Tremendous move! They only gave up Gabbard and Murphy! Gabbard's value is very high right now, and murphy is a fourth outfielder at best. While Gabbard has shown great potential, the sox have lester as well as a bunch of other blue chip prospects that made Gabbard expendable! To get this guy as a set up man and give up not a single "off limits"  prospect is a awesome deal. The sox farm is has a lot of great young players waiting. As well as some great young arms. Gange is going to be used as a set up man. Oki is lights out and Gange gives the sox yet another option in a outstanding bullpen. having gange and Oki to set up Pap is going to be awesome. 16 saves in 17 chances with a 2.16 era should tranlate into a nice set up man.  Word is the rangers are also intersted in some of the many prospects the sox have. With Papi dealing with nagging injury they are going to get a bat. They sent Pinero to the reds today, another move is going to be made.

I love this move. Pitching wins in the playoffs. More depth in a already outstanding bullpen is excellent.

LOL

Boston Smelly Sox is a new one.

And this move is an excellent one, Timlin's injury prone and old and the addition of Gagne adds a great righthanded arm.

Bring on Jermaine Dye next.

I'm out of the loop here. What happended to Papelbon? Injured?

Either way, the Sox are the team to beat now in the AL. If Manny and Papi would start hitting for your guys, you'd easily win 100+ games this year.

Papelbon is going to continue to close, Gagne is going to be used as a bridge to the closer along with Okajima. Apparently Gagne agreed to the deal because the Sox agreed to pay his bonus. Gagne had a bonus that kicked in after he pitched a certain number of innings or reached a certain number of saves.

In essence the Sox have two closers now, he's a hell of a weapon to add at this point. He used to be unhittable before his elbow blew out.

i agree thats a great move for the sox.  adding another top notch closer to go along with a already strong pen and starting staff is gonna make them very hard to beat come october.

Pap is fine. Manny was just named the al player of the week He has hit .393 with 10 RBIs, a .857 slugging percentage and a .438 on-base percentage over seven games. He is over 300 now. I wish Papi was 100 percent healthy  :-[

Good move for the sox, which improves an already strong bullpen.  I was curious as to why they didn't address some of their weakness, but Donelly going on the DL for the year today explains some of the need for this move, as well as some scouting showing decreased velocity for Papelbon.

In my opinion, acquiring Dye scared me a little more than Gagne, since the sox offense could stuggle in the second half, and the acquisition of someone at his level could give them more of a chance to rest Ortiz.

Trades can still happen, the players will need to clear waivers, though.

Hopefully, this acquisition will help the sox beat up some of those WC contenders.  ;D

The Bronx Bombers will just render Gagne and Papelbon useless by hammering, Beckett, Schilling, Dice-K. That way no save situations.

Sorry Sox fans but had to do it to you. Orioles beat the Sox behind Eric Bedard's seventh straight win, 5-3.

A couple of years ago I thought Bedard as our #1 pitcher would only be a #3 or #4 in Boston or New York's rotation. Not now. This guy is turning into the real deal and he leads the majors in strikeouts. The Orioles better dig deep to keep Bedard in the next year or so. Only allowed 2 hits and had 7 k's.

Orioles are 12-5 since the All-Star break. Best record in the American League, by the way.

Dream on?  I never make predictions, since anything can and does happen in baseball.   But, if you check the numbers, the Yankees have good stats against all sox starters not named Tavarez.

As for Bedard, he's a legitimate CY candidate.

What does that have to do with anything? The truth of the matter is the Yankees have beat up on those guys.

Speaking of Zito.......

3 big Scott Boras signings - Zito, Damon, Drew, all appear to be shit contracts after the first two years - maybe one with Zito/Drew.  Varitek will overpaid as well the next two.

I can think of a host of other duds  -  Stottlemyer, Driefort, Brown, Park Hampton(?).....will it ever hurt future singning or are the owners that gullible?

Hahahaha, Beckett's little meltdown after he got plastered by the Orioles yesterday was pure gold. That cooler was talking mad shit I'll bet! With that shaky rotation, just need to get on them early and keep those guys out of the game.

What about Lugo's meltdown with the umpire after that 3rd strike call with 2 men left on base?

Priceless. Lugo's offense is pathetic. It's not like he would have made solid contact with the ball even if he did fucking hit it.

Body88 was talking up Drew big in April. I watch a lot of national league games and knew what a stiff J.D. Drew really was.

I was talking him up in April because he was batting 400 and playing a dynamite right field in the triangle. If you bring that thread up I was raving about his current play. I should have just ignored how well he was doing!

At this rate he is even worse then Abreu . Not by much tho!

Abreu, don't even bring up that wussies name.  He shits his pants at the sight of an outfield wall or warning track.

i agree he is been a power downer compared to sheff, but due to the yankee scoring machine he could very well hit a palty 10 homers but drive in 90 or so.they pasted the whitesox again and hit another 5 dingers unreal..
